Jim France To Step Down
Jim France will step down as chief executive officer of International Speedway Corporation effective June 1 with Lesa Kennedy succeeding him in that role. Jim France is the son of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr., brother of former NASCAR chairman Bill France Jr. and uncle of current NASCAR chairman Brian France. Brian France is Lesa Kennedy’s brother. Jim France will retain his role as chairman of ISC’s board of directors. Lesa Kennedy will remain vice chair of the ISC board.

Lawsuit Preventing Race Date
The likelihood that Kentucky Speedway will be awarded a 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup race has become even more remote because an antitrust lawsuit by the track founders against NASCAR and International Speedway Corp. now likely won’t be resolved until July at the earliest. The case, which is in U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, is not included in the hearing calendar finalized Monday for a two-week session beginning April 20. Although the court could still add the case to the schedule, that would be rare in a case such as this one. The next two-week hearing session begins June 8 – the Monday prior to the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the track.

Last year’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race winner, Kasey Kahne, made history by becoming the first driver to win the main event after qualifying via the Sprint Fan Vote. — “Winning the Sprint Fan Vote and going on to win the Sprint All-Star Race was an unforgettable moment for me,” said Kahne, who drives the No. 9 Budweiser Dodge for Richard Petty Motorsports. “I’ll never be able to repay the fans for that win. After being voted into the race by the fans and then bringing home a victory for them, it meant a lot to everyone on the Budweiser Dodge team. We owe the fans and Sprint for helping make it happen.” — Unlimited voting is available to all fans from April 14 to May 16. Fans may vote by visiting www.sprint.com/speed or a participating Sprint retail store. Fans may also vote trackside at the Sprint Experience during NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekends.

“NASCAR, We Have a Problem….”
by Larry Van Zandt

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Ryan Newman Riding Momentum Into Phoenix
After a rough start to the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Ryan Newman has been making steady progress, and he’ll be looking to continue that in Saturday night’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, a track that holds particular significance for him.

The Nascar Insiders
Ask The Insiders Wednesday #19
The Nationwide Series took center stage on Saturday with a Music City Showdown that saw Joe Nemechek go for a wild ride, and ended with Joey Logano hoisting the Gibson guitar.

Some NASCAR Car Numbers Are Legendary, But None Should Ever Be Retired
In NASCAR, a lot of importance is placed on the numbers. #8 and #20 once brought images to mind of Dale Earnhardt Jr in a Bud uniform, or the Home Depot for Tony Stewart. We remember the good times, the successes.

On Pit Road: How Much Harder Will the Economy Hit Nascar
If the excess empty seats at Nashville Saturday during the Nascar Nationwide Series, Pepsi 300, is any indication, times are tough. The light turnout may have been effected by the Tornado that touched down just south of the track on Friday, causing extensive damage in the Murfreesboro area.

Shepherd’s Faith Motorsports built on Christian assistance
Call Dave Thomas a cheerleader. Call him pseudo public relations. Call him another member of Morgan Shepherd’s Faith Motorsports racing team.

Ask Side Ways?
Well folks when does the absence of a problem become a problem? We are 7 races into this 2009 season and not one real controversy of driver, team, owner or NASCAR itself apparently exists.

Have You Seen “3 Wide Life” Yet?
There are few independent TV series on-the-air today about NASCAR. Between getting access at the race tracks, buying footage from the sanctioning body and trying to schedule driver interviews, the challenge is daunting.
