What If We Could Change The Voice Of Our GPS?
Yes, I know that Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s voice can give you directions on your GPS but… follow along with me here (and it’s ok to use your GPS)…
What prompted this article? I’m not really sure other than doing a lot of driving and listening to my annoying GPS voice. So I got to thinking… would a certain voice for certain traffic conditions be good?
Consider driving in rush hour in a BIG city… would you want Kurt Busch going off on you while giving you directions?
If you listen to Junior very much, he cusses, so that might get comical.
But think of it as having a spotter’s voice in your in car giving you directions. It’s rush hour. There’s 3 lanes of traffic and you get inside, outside, clear clear oh you need to be on the inside lane for that turn.
After having spent the season scanning drivers, spotters and crew chiefs there are some that there is no way would I want them assisting me.
Mind you I don’t live in a big city. I don’t mind driving in Denver with the exception of one street. Yep, I have to take that street to get to Furniture Row when I go up there. But when I travel there are some places I would really like a calm normal-sounding voice helping me through.
For those stress driving times, I think I would want Chris Osborne or TJ Majors. Why? These two keep their cool during really stressful races, and put up with drivers who can really complain in the car.
For just day to day driving around here I’d pick Mike Calinoff or Brett Griffin. These two will tell it like it is.. so if you run a stop sign, they will tell you.
I’d pick Clayton Hughes for driving around in the country like most of my driving is. I can just hear Cuz now telling me to turn left at the brown cow. Of course I’ll more than likely yell, “Wwhich brown cow???”
For those boring trips to Kansas to get my daughter, I think I’ll take Earl Barban only because rumor has it he’ll sing.
Yes I know there are sites online where you can download other voices for your GPS. I just haven’t done it.
If you are interested Amazon does sell the Rightway RW500JR Spotter for $57.
In other words everyone have safe travels this holiday season.
