The final day of the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic was a testament to the unpredictable nature of racing and the resilience of its fans and participants. Heavy rain greeted the day and later bid it farewell, but in between, the sun broke through just in time for the 100-mile Trans Am TA/XGT/SGT/GT race, providing perfect conditions for a dramatic and thrilling event. Mike Hopkins Takes Home Second Consecutive Coastal 200 Victory

Memorial Day weekend is home to one of the biggest Late Model racing events in New England: The Coastal 200. This year, Wiscasset Speedway decided to up the ante and make the race bigger and better than ever before, hosting an action-packed 3-day weekend which would include an infield kickoff party featuring the Motor Booty Affair, charitable car show and cornhole tournament benefiting the Special Olympics and the $15,000 to win Coastal 200 to round out the 3-day affair.

Fans followed suit as well with another large crowd on hand to take in some Thunder in the Mountain to start their holiday weekend. Christopher Bell made it to Victory Lane in the Cup race with Joey Logano of Middletown, CT coming in 14th and Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT took 26th with Boston’s Kaz Grala ending up 34th while Corey LaJoie ended his day in 35th.
Corey LaJoie is the son of Randy LaJoie who called Norwalk, CT home before he moved to Charlotte, NC to be closer to the NASCAR action in which he won a pair of Xfinity Championships.
Chase Elliott came home the victor in the Xfinity Series race with Kyle Weatherman ended up 10th and Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT got 16th, Patrick Emerling of Long Island, NY came in 30th, Blain Perkins was 35th and Parker Kligerman of Stamford, CT ended up 37th. Weatherman and Perkins both drive team cars for Cape Cod’s Chris and Mary Our that get their US Mail in Harwich, MA.
Tanner Gray won the Menards ARCA Series while Andy Jankowiak of Buffalo, NY came in 16th.
Joseph Newgarden won the Indy 500 and Santino Ferrucci of Woodbury, CT. Ferrucci was also in the hunt for the entire 500 miles
