RCR Race Preview: Watkins Glen International
Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series at Watkins Glen International… Richard Childress Racing has two NASCAR Cup Series victories at Watkins Glen International. Robby Gordon won the 2003 event, leading the final 30 laps and scoring his third victory with RCR over the span of three seasons. Kevin Harvick captured the 2006 race at the New York road course, edging Tony Stewart for the victory, and claiming his first win at Watkins Glen. The victory was Harvick’s first on a road course and came in his 200th career Cup start. Dale Earnhardt won three poles (1990, 1992, 1996) for the Welcome, N.C.-based organization. RCR drivers have racked up eight top-five and 23 top-10 finishes in 81 starts at the New York road course. (more…)

Track Enterprises has been the primary promoter at the track since 2020, after handling the ARCA race promotion at the speedway from 2015-2019. 21 Freightliner Team Hoping To Score Points at the Glen
After coming just a half a straightaway shy of leaving Atlanta Motor Speedway with a much-needed good points day, Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Freightliner team are headed to Watkins Glen International hoping to battle their way back into a position to advance to Round Two of the Cup Series Playoffs.
This weekend’s Go Bowling at the Glen on the road course at Watkins Glen, N.Y., is the second of three races in the Round of 16, and Burton and the Wood Brothers are 14th in the standings, 16 points behind 12th place. After the race at Bristol the following week, the bottom four drivers in the Playoff standings will be eliminated from championship contention. (more…)

Parker Kligerman Not Returning to Big Machine Racing in 2025, Not Pursuing Full-Time Rides
Parker Kligerman announced on his podcast “The Money Lap” that he won’t be returning to Big Machine Racing for the 2025 Xfinity Series season and is done pursuing full-time rides at NASCAR.
Kligerman returned as a full-time competitor in 2023, after more than a decade of making sporadic starts for multiple teams across all three national touring levels. He finished the 2023 season 10th in the championship standings, with a career-high eight top-five finishes. (more…)
Mohawk Northeast Racing: Ryan Preece Watkins Glen Advance
● The Go Bowling at The Glen Sunday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International is the fourth of five road-course races on the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule. Ryan Preece, driver of the No. 41 Mohawk Northeast Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Stewart-Haas Racing, finished 23rd in the series’ first road-course race of the year March 24 at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. He then placed 18th in the series’ second road-course stop June 9 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. In his most recent road-course start on the streets of downtown Chicago for the July 7 Grant Park 165, Preece finished 34th. After Watkins Glen, the final road-course race of the year takes place Oct. 12 on the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval.
● Sunday’s race will mark Preece’s fourth NASCAR Cup Series start at Watkins Glen. Best among his three previous starts was his most recent, a 17th-place drive from the 30th starting position in August 2023. Preece’s first two Cup Series starts at 2.45-mile, seven-turn road course came with JTG Daugherty Racing in 2019 and 2021, which resulted in finishes of 36th and 28th, respectively. (more…)

Watkins Glen International to Host NASCAR Cup Playoff Race for the First-Time
After a wild and action-packed NASCAR Cup Series Playoff opener at Atlanta Motor Speedway that has shuffled the standings considerably, the competitors now turn their attention to an updated Watkins Glen International for the Go Bowling at The Glen on Sunday, September 15, at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio – the first of two road courses in the 2024 postseason (Watkins Glen and Charlotte ROVAL).
The Cup Series will encounter a few first this weekend, it’s the first time Watkins Glen International has hosted a NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race, also the 2.45-mile track has added new rumble strips and interchangeable curbing in the Inner Loop Chicane (a.k.a. the bus stop) they will have to navigate for the first-time, and Goodyear will be supplying a new tire that was tested recently, that should provide more fall-off than the previous tire.
NASCAR Xfinity Series: Road Course Racing at The Glen
The NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers will be back for some left and right turn action as they head to Watkins Glen International on Saturday, September 14 for the Mission 200 at The Glen at 3 p.m. ET (USA Network, NBC Sports App, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
Watkins Glen International has hosted 29 NASCAR Xfinity Series races, producing 18 different race winners and just as many pole winners.
Nine Xfinity Series Watkins Glen races have been won from the pole or first starting position, most recently by Joey Logano in 2018.

Justin Haley will make his fourth start at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International with the No. 51 Pinnacle Home Improvements team in Sunday afterrnoon’s Go Bowling at The Glen. Haley earned an 18th-place finish at The Glen in 2022, marking his best result on the 2.45-mile, seven-turn road course.
Kaz Grala is set to make his first Cup Series start at Watkins Glen in the No. 15 Meat N’ Bone Ford Mustang Dark Horse. In five starts on road courses in the Cup Series, the 25-year-old has one top-10 finish, earned in his first start in the series. It came in 2020 on the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway road course, where Grala started 10th in the field of 39 cars piloting the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing entry, and he led three laps en route to a seventh-place finish. - Hendrick Motorsports has won 30 times on road courses, the most by 15. Organizations in the second-through-fourth positions have combined for 30.
- With William Byron (COTA), Kyle Larson (Sonoma) and Alex Bowman (Chicago Street Course) claiming wins this season, Hendrick Motorsports became the first organization to send three different drivers to victory lane at three consecutive road courses.
- All four current Hendrick Motorsports crew chiefs have at least one victory at a road course, led by Alan Gustafson, leader of the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts team, with seven.
- Hendrick Motorsports has won five consecutive races at Watkins Glen International, the most by any organization at any track since Hendrick Motorsports claimed six straight victories at Phoenix (2007-2009).

- BELL AT WATKINS GLEN: Christopher Bell has earned one top-five finish and three top-10s in three NASCAR Cup Series starts at Watkins Glen International. Bell’s best finish of third came last year at The Glen. Bell also has two NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) starts at Watkins Glen, including a runner-up finish in 2019.
- 2024 PLAYOFFS: Bell finished fourth in the playoff opener at Atlanta and is currently second in points heading into the second race of the Round of 16.

- SMITH AT WATKINS GLEN: Chandler Smith made his track debut at Watkins Glen International in last year’s NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) race. Smith finished the race in eighth-place. Smith has finished in the top-10 in two road course races so far in 2024 – Circuit of the Americas and Sonoma Raceway.
- ATLANTA RECAP: Last weekend, Smith returned to his home track, Atlanta Motor Speedway. The No. 81 started eighth and earned a few stage points with a ninth-place finish in Stage 1 and a eighth-place finish in Stage 2. Smith led twice in Stage 3 for a total of 28 laps. Smith made a run at the lead on the last lap, but fell back for a fourth-place finish.
Bed Bath & Beyond Racing: Josh Berry Watkins Glen Advance
● The NASCAR Cup Series has two remaining road course races in the 2024 season, with the historic Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International next up on the schedule. The field will tackle the serpentine 2.45-mile layout during Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen. For Josh Berry, who is contending for 2024 Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors, he will make his debut at the track in NASCAR’s premier series in Sunday’s event. The 33-year-old driver has two starts at Watkins Glen in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, his best finish of ninth earned in August 2022 for JR Motorsports after starting 17th and finishing the second stage in seventh. Berry’s second Xfinity Series appearance at Watkins Glen came in August 2023, when he started seventh and finished 20th.
