Sunoco World Series Friday Sets Tone for 62nd Running of Three-Day Stock Car Festival

Naples, ME & Barre, VT — The 85th season of racing at Thompson Speedway is set to close out for the 62nd time with the action-packed Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing starting with the exciting Friday opener. Headlined by the return of the Outlaw Open Modified Series Dash for Cash, Friday also includes the conclusion of the 2024 track championship for the Thompson Late Models, the Evolve Bank & Trust Pro Truck Series, Thompson Sunoco Modifieds, the R&R Race Parts NH Street Stock Open and a three-peat of vintage racing stars to round out the weekend opener! Here’s How The New England Drivers And Those Who Have Connections With The Six State New England Area Did Over The Weekend At Talladega
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. won the Cup race while Corey LaJoie finished 18th with Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT placing 24th and Joey Logano of Middletown, CT ended up 33rd while Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT finished 35th.  Corey LaJoie is the son of two-time Xfinity Champion Randy LaJoie who served his racing apprenticeship while a resident of Norwalk, CT before moving South to NC.
Sammy Smith ended up having a great day in the Xfinity Series pulling off the win.  Stamford, CT’s Parker Kligerman came in 12th with Blair Perkins finishing 18th then there was Anthony Alfredo doing double duty coming in 29th.  Next was Kyle Weatherman in 31st. Perkins and Weatherman along with Alfredo are teammates in the three-car stable owned by Cape Cod’s Chris Our and his daughter who are residents of Chatham, MA.

Wolcott’s Marcel Gravel Takes Career Defining, Emotional Win in 62nd Vermont Milk Bowl

Barre, VT — Following the annual pomp and circumstance of the annual season ending classic, the brave drivers of the American-Canadian Tour took on the first of three Segments in the 62nd Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank. Polesitter Gabe Brown jumped ahead to lead the pack early while collecting the first lap money of the event along with Marcel Gravel in second and Jimmy Hebert in third. Driving hard on the outside lane, Gravel launched to lead lap nine with Hebert and previous Milk Bowl winners Jason Corliss and Chris Pelkey in tow. A trio of mid-race, quick cycle cautions slowed the segment for heart-pounding restarts before Marcel Gravel claimed the opening segment win with Jason Corliss, Brown, Hebert and Pelkey rounding out the top five. Sadler- Stanley Racing to Honor the Hendrick Racing Legacy in SMART Modified Tour Race at South Boston

Sadler-Stanley Racing, co-owned by Virginia attorney and State Senator Bill Stanley, and former NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler, will honor Roy Hendrick and the entire Hendrick family at the next SMART Modified Tour race this weekend.

The team will honor Hendrick by carrying the “Flying 11” number on the entry driven by Jonathan Cash. The Pace-O-Matic machine will compete at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, October 12.

Forty-seven American-Canadian Tour / Maplefields-Irving Late Models took on the highbanks in the once-a-year single car time trials with Kaiden Fisher and Derek Gluchacki taking fast time before technical inspection stripped them of their efforts with tread width deemed too wide by officials. (Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway hosted its final Friday night race program of the 2024 season with NAPA Auto Parts Championship Night on October 4.  Feature wins were notched by Michael Christopher, Jr. in the SK Modified® feature, Adam Gray in the Late Model feature, Josh Morrison in the SK Light feature, Matt Clement in the Limited Late Model feature, and Travis Hydar in the Street Stock feature.  Tyler Chapman had already secured the SK Light track championship last week and the other 2024 track champions are Andrew Molleur in the SK Modified® division, Kevin Gambacorta for the second consecutive season in the Late Model division, Matt Clement in the Limited Late Model division, and Travis Downey in the Street Stock feature.
