After the Ford Motor Company pulled out of NHRA pro drag racing in late 2013, Cranston, RI’s Bob Tasca III warned it had made a mistake: “I truly believe they have underestimated the passion and loyalty of the NHRA fans” – and lobbied hard for a decision reversal. Ford agreed to continue supporting his Funny Car program, but Tasca made a promise on his end, too.
The traditional season-opening event of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series was bumped out of the leadoff spot and into April because of fan restrictions at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway. Well, the event is moving once again.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 10) — Pro Stock driver Troy Coughlin Jr. and his uncle Mike Coughlin will be searching for hides at this weekend’s 51st annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals. Troy Jr., who assumed the seat of the JEGS.com Elite Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro in the off-season after his uncle Jeg Coughlin Jr. retired, will be considered one of the favorites for this historic race after a strong outing at last weekend’s non-sanctioned World Doorslammers Nationals in Orlando.

2019 NHRA Rookie of the Year loses Top Fuel ride with JFR, will stay on in crew member, super-sub role. The 25-year-old rising star in the Camping World NHRA Drag Racing Series, was left off the organization’s driver roster for 2021 for financial reasons. Instead of racing, Prock helps crew chief dad Jimmy Prock work on Robert Hight’s Auto Club Chevy Funny Car. Prock scored his lone Top Fuel victory on the way to earning his 2019 NHRA rookie-of-the-year status.
