For some powerhouse teams it was a successful and steady start to the new season, for others Icebreaker Friday spelled redemption and a fresh start for the new season.

Thompson, CT — Five divisions started off the New England racing season in style on Friday night at Thompson Speedway but one race stood out among them all. In the opening act for the weekly Late Models at the 5/8-mile highbanked speedway in eastern Connecticut, Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) semi-finalist Derek Gluchacki walked away triumphant in the race of the night that saw unmatched competition and thrilling moves throughout the field.

Alongside such acclaimed SRX stars as Andretti, Stewart, Newman and Tracy, the international Late Model stars of the Northeast will be gunning for a $3,000 grand prize in the winner’s circle with a guaranteed starting pay of $450 for the twenty-six drivers that take the green flag in the 64-lap race to honor Thunder Road’s 64th season of operation.

The rough start of the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season for Kaz Grala and Sam Hunt Racing was shaken off with a top-five finish in the team’s home race at Richmond Raceway.
