RICHMOND, Va. — In his return to Virginia two decades after graduating from the University of Richmond, Doug Coby grabbed a top-five finish at Richmond Raceway on Friday, September 10. Coby drove the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry to a fifth-place finish in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Virginia is For Racing Lovers 150 after running inside the top-10 inside the final half of the race. Martin Truex, Jr. started the race with a penalty on the first lap. Denny Hamlin controlled the start and may have spun his wheels but it didn’t matter. NASCAR rule states that you may not beat the polesitter to the start finish line and MTJ certainly did that, tire spinning or not. Hamlin is pretty sly on restarts and even if he didn’t spin his tires, he will definitely play the restart to bait his opponent into a mistake.

In an exciting finish last weekend at Darlington Raceway to open the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, that saw Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin hold-off a hard charging Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson nearly wrecking coming to the finish line, the series now heads to Richmond Raceway for the Federated Auto Parts 400 Salute to First Responders this Saturday under the lights at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Noah Gragson wasn’t a lock in the Playoffs until this past weekend at Darlington Raceway, where he won his first race of the 2021 season only a few days after announcing that he would be returning to JR Motorsports in 2022.
