2024 NASA Champions Rise to the Top at Utah Motorsports Complex
Sept. 9, 2024, Salt Lake City — Earning a National Championship takes perseverance, some luck and waking up before dawn to make sure the racecar is ready. The racers have run practice sessions, a qualifier and qualifying race culminating Sunday in the Championships. Along the way they had to overcome heat and altitude to finish on the podium and enjoy a champagne shower.
Eighteen racing drivers were crowned as 2024 NASA National Championships. In reality, every team that competed at the Utah Motorsports Complex should take a victory lap.
For most of the teams, this isn’t it. They’ll be back at the 2025 NASA National Championships at Ozarks International Raceway in Gravois Mills, Mo., to try again. But we are probably getting ahead of ourselves again. Let’s talk about the 2024 NASA Championships first. (more…)

Brandon Gray Claims Record-Breaking Seventh Flying Tiger Victory, Clinches Championship on McGee Hyundai of Barre Super Friday!
Barre, VT — The Maplefield/Irving Late Models started off McGee Hyundai of Barre Super Friday with their 50-lap trophy dash to kick start Super Friday’s five division showcase. Outside polesitter Taylor Hoar got off to a sour start, careening into the infield on lap one to bring out the early caution. Chip Grenier put the pedal down to lead the restart on the outside groove over Stephen Martin and set the pace out front. The caution flew once more on lap 16 as Christopher Bedard stacked up the middle of the pack in turn four, sending Jason Corliss hard into the Widowmaker frontstretch wall and ending his night early. Renfrew Lights Up the Highbanks for $5,000 R&R Street Stock 100 Victory
N. Woodstock, NH — Following heat race qualifying and the all-important Late Model Semi Feature, the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis started off an early schedule Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park. Led to green by former first-time winner on the year, Connor Rueda paced the early circuits with Donnie Baumgardner keeping watch on the outside groove. The best on-track battle saw tied championship hopefuls Todd Derrington and Patrick Switser duke it out midpack for a top-five finish before last-lap fireworks up front.
Entering turn one on the final lap, Rueda found himself across the nose of Baumgardner and into the infield, prompting race control to dock the #18 to last on the lead lap finish and young McKenna Merchant found herself the winner in victory lane. Derrington and Switser joined Merchant on the podium to keep the championship battle at a continued close call leading into the final weeks of the season. (more…)
Mid-Afternoon Rain Causes Race Cancelation Saturday Night For Grandview Speedway, Spunktown Tavern & Restaurant Championship Night Determines Point Titles Next Saturday September 14
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – Following significant rainfall during a line of storms mid-afternoon, and with more rain showers on the radar screen to follow for the next several hours leading up to race time Saturday evening, track management had to once again cancel the planned race events for this week at Grandview Speedway.
The mid and late day precipitation left the speedway facility very wet, and with no drying weather expected right after the rain moved through, it would not have allowed the track crew a chance to be able to prepare the track in a timely manner for the evening’s race program. (more…)
Friday Qualifying Shapes the Field at 2024 NASA Championships
Sept. 6, 2024, Salt Lake City — Friday qualifying at the 2024 NASA Championships is an interesting proposition. Race drivers have two qualifying sessions to lay down their fastest lap time in an attempt to start from as far forward on grid as possible for the first qualifying race on Saturday.
The morning session is usually the best opportunity to set a fast time. Afternoon sessions give drivers the opportunity to put all their added seat time to good use, but temperatures in the high 80s this afternoon in the Tooele Valley can diminish engine power and decrease the amount of grip on the racing surface. Drivers who lay down a scorcher of a lap in the morning usually set themselves up to be in the best grid position possible. (more…)
National Auto Sport Association Announces Location of 2025 NASA Championships
Sept. 5, 2024, Salt Lake City — One of the newest and most challenging courses in the United States, Ozarks International Raceway will host the NASA Championships Sept. 4-7, 2025.
The track features 19 turns and 150 feet of elevation change, and 1,200 feet of elevation change during a single lap. Track owner and president JR Pesek and his crew took nearly three years to build the facility, consulting with everyone from the Army Corps of Engineers to global engineering, manufacturing and motorsports powerhouse Multimatic. Pesek’s in-house team moved about 3 million cubic yards of dirt, but left as many trees in place to create a park-like setting. The result is a track with corners that might seem familiar, but overall is like nothing else in the world. (more…)

Following his win last Thursday, with his spectacular Labor Day Classic victory not counting towards weekly King of the Road standings, Milton’s Scott Dragon remains in striking distance of Kaiden Fisher’s lead on the Maplefield/Irving Late Models. Dragon has come on strong in recent weeks but has already had a stellar season with the Todd Rueda-owned, CDR Concrete team having taken both the Vermont Governor’s Cup and the Labor Day Classic along with the inaugural Squier Cup triple crown! Capping the 2024 season with his third track championship would put the cherry on top but Fisher still holds a 60-point lead on the veteran. (more…)

Ted Christopher Drive for Safety Initiative 2024
(Stafford Springs, CT)—For the fifth consecutive season, the Ted Christopher Safety Initiative will support local driver safety at Stafford Speedway. Established prior to the start of the 2020 season by Quinn Christopher, the Ted Christopher Safety Initiative will provide an SK Modified® driver with a brand new fully custom and embroidered Pro Series Double Layer firesuit.
Unlike years past when there has been a drawing in NAPA Victory Lane to determine the firesuit winner, this year’s Leaf firesuit will be awarded via a driver vote. Only SK Modified® drivers who have attended every race thus far during the 2024 season will be eligible to vote and that same group of drivers will be the only ones eligible to receive the new firesuit. The winner will be announced during the Friday, September 13 TC 13 Shootout / First Responders Night program.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—With Stafford Speedway’s Late Model division set to run their annual extra distance feature event, the Paradiso Insurance 50, this Friday September 6, Bobby Stirk, III and the #9 team sponsored by A6A Associates, Tri-State Elevator & Hoist, and Costa & Son Construction are ready to fight for their first Late Model victory. The fact that Stirk will even be at the track to try to win the race would be a small miracle after crashing his car and seeing the front end briefly catch fire in last week’s feature event. Lizards Return to Alabama for Barber Double Header
BIRMINGHAM, AL., (September 4, 2024) – Momentum is on the side of Flying Lizard Motorsports as the multi-effort racing team heads to Barber Motorsports Park after an eight-year SRO America absence from the scenic circuit. The Phoenix, Arizona-based team has enjoyed back-to-back podium weekends across their GT America, GT4 America, and GT World Challenge America and journeys to Birmingham, Alabama for another weekend filled with sports car racing.
Flying Lizard has had successes at the circuit before, including a 2015 victory with 24 Hours of Le Mans Winner and FIA World Endurance Championship champion Kevin Estre.
We are getting close to the end of the 2024 season and are looking forward to a return to the Barber Motorsports track. This is a tricky circuit because there are not many straightaways, most corners are tight and put a lot of load on the front of the car. We have had success here in the past and always like coming to this beautiful facility. (more…)
