Talladega Leaves the Door to the Playoffs’ Round of 8 Wide-Open
As the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs move to the Round of 12 elimination race, the Bank of America ROVAL 400 on Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course (2 p.m. ET on NBC, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) the championship standings actually – and perhaps amazingly – look similar to their position before last weekend’s predictably unpredictable race at Talladega (Ala.) Here’s How The New England Drivers And Those Who Have Connections With The Six State New England Area Did Over The Weekend At Talladega
Transcripts: Driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Crew Chief Mike Kelley, After Talladega Victory
THE MODERATOR: We’re joined by Mike Kelley, Crew Chief of the No. 47 Chevrolet. Congratulations on your win today, Mike. Can you tell us a little bit about the race itself?
MIKE KELLEY: Well, today for us was just all about execution. We generally don’t qualify well here. I think today — or yesterday was our best qualifying effort on a speedway with a Next Gen car. We qualified 32nd. We won’t compromise our race setup, and we generally have a pretty good race car for Ricky to be able to maneuver around.

Christopher Bell is safe but with Ross Chastain and Stenhouse each stealing a win in this Round of 12, the stakes for everyone else couldn’t be higher heading to The Roval. (more…)

Sammy Smith Clinches Spot in Round of 8 With Xfinity Series Victory at Talladega
TALLADEGA, Ala. – A last lap pass for the win is a recurring theme at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and that’s exactly what landed JR Motorsports driver Sammy Smith in Victory Lane on Saturday. It was the only lap he led all day but it was good enough to win Saturday’s United Rentals 250 overtime thriller and earn Smith an automatic berth into the next round of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs.

NASCAR will institute aerodynamic changes to all Cup Series cars ahead of Sunday’s Round of 12 playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, the sanctioning body announced Tuesday.
Among the mandated additions will be an extended-height roof rail, an extended rocker panel skirt and fabric beneath the right-side roof flap. These combined efforts are intended to reduce the chances and effects of a vehicle getting airborne in the event of an on-track, high-speed incident on the 2.66-mile superspeedway.
