Maine native Ricky Craven will lead the field to green for New England’s only NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs race on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
LOUDON, N.H. – On Sunday, Sept. 21, Ricky Craven, two-time NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) race winner and Newburgh, Maine native, will get behind the wheel of the official Toyota GR Supra pace car as he leads 36 of NASCAR’s best to the green flag for the Mobil 1 301 NCS race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS).
A three-race winner this year in the No 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, driver Austin Hill heads into the 2025 Playoffs with reason to be optimistic but also cognizant of the challenge ahead. A big penalty for rough driving at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July cost Hill all his accumulated Playoff points and puts him in an immediate position to play catch-up.
Haas Factory Team driver Sam Mayer may not have turned in the flash and multi-victory pizzazz this year that Zilisch has demonstrated, but the 22-year-old Wisconsin native won at Iowa Speedway in August and his 15 top-10s through the opening 26-races points to the consistent success he’s shown all year.
Reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series champion JR Motorsports veteran Justin Allgaier finished second to his teammate Conner Zilisch in the Regular Season Championship. And he joins Zilisch and Austin Hill as the series’ only other multi-race winners.
The 12 drivers who have qualified for the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs met with the national media Tuesday and there was a common and clear storyline in their plans to hoist the championship trophy as they kick off the seven-race Playoff run.
They need to beat JR Motorsports driver Connor Zilisch.
Denny Hamlin won the Cup race at the World Wide Technology Raceway. Joey Logano of Middletown, CT finished fifth with Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT placing 13th.
Conner Zilisch won the Xfinity event. Anthony Alfredo of Ridgewood, CT came in 13th, and Thomas Annunziata of NJ ended up 20th.
