Kyle Larson pulled off a rare sweep of the weekend races at Watkins Glen. In the Xfinity race, he was the beneficiary of contact between the leaders that sent them both spinning and allowing Larson through to hold off AJ Allmendinger.
Fast forward to the rain delayed Sunday race and it was Larson once again holding off AJ for the win. But the win wasn’t without some controversy.
“Looking at the competition right now, you have to like Toyota’s chances. But look out, (Kevin) Harvick was second to (Denny) Hamlin in the spring race. If you doubt Harvick, you don’t know him very well.”
While Toyota didn’t do too badly in the race, the Ford of Kevin Harvick came to play. It seems just a few weeks ago many were wondering if Harvick could even make the playoffs. He was below the cut line and he hadn’t been very sporty.
There was a lot of hard racing at Michigan but clean air ruled the day as did Kevin “The Closer” Harvick. The win ended a 65-race drought for the veteran Ford driver at a track where Fords have been dominant. The win cements Harvick’s place in the playoffs and now puts Martin Truex, Jr. in jeopardy of not making the grade. (more…)
What turned out to be a career day for several NASCAR Cup Series drivers turned into a dismal finish for others, like Ross Chastain.

We saw a pretty good race at Pocono and as I said last week, put your wager on an existing winner and probably a Joe Gibbs Racing team.
So I got it half right.
With his first win of the season, Christopher Bell made it increasingly hard for Kevin Harvick to make the playoffs. Bell has been a contender in several races this season but just hasn’t had the car or strategy to pull it off. This time was different. (more…)
The newly configured Atlanta racetrack combined with the new car sure is providing some interesting racing. While different, it provided some Daytona- and Talladega-like racing.
After Tyler Reddick took the lead from Chase Elliott he not only grabbed his first ever Cup win but he shook up the playoff picture in a big way.
Clean air and patience were the name of the game at Nashville on Sunday and Chase Elliott was both. For fans, patience was tried as the race was delayed for weather twice for lightning and rain with the second delay lasting over 2 hours. If you were able to stay awake, kudos to you.
The race at Sonoma could have ended a lot differently than it did. But trouble found both of the early frontrunners and opened the door for Daniel Suarez to grab his first ever Cup win.
