This was the weekend that racing enthusiasts salivate over. First it was the Indy 500 with a huge crowd to watch a spectacular race won by Marcus Ericsson. Ericsson is an F1 transfer that never saw the podium in his career. (more…)
Chuck Checks In
Kurt Busch Takes Tough Kansas Victory
While other drivers were dealing with issues during the race from flat tires to pit road issues, Kurt Busch drove about as hard as he could with no mistakes to take home the win for 23XI Racing. And to top it off, he broke the season long jinx of no Stage 2 winner coming out on top.
Denny Hamlin Leaves ‘Dega With a Show of Bad Judgement
After running out of gas near the end of the race, Denny Hamlin finished 18th. In many ways, he is lucky that is as bad as it got after posting a racial slur meme aimed at Kyle Larson. Hamlin is lucky he hasn’t been suspended from NASCAR the way Larson was for his racial slur during a 2020 virtual racing event. Larson also lost his job at Ganassi Racing for that slur.
Kyle Busch Surprises With Bristol Dirt Race Win
Kyle Busch was not supposed to win this one. This was shaping up to be a battle between Tyler Reddick and Chase Briscoe, or one of several other drivers under the age of 30. If a veteran was going to win, it was going to be Joey Logano at the ripe old age of 31.
William Byron Nabs Second Win at Martinsville Snooze-fest
One of the things NASCAR has gone all in on is the excitement that normally comes with short track and road course racing. Fans have been screaming for more short track racing. They cry that mile and a half cookie cutter tracks are “boring”.
What NASCAR wasn’t expecting were long green flag racing at two short tracks that usually produce some quality side by side, fender rubbing, wrecking kind of racing.
NASCAR’s “Old Guys” Rule At Richmond
With the laps winding down, it looked like William Byron was going to win his second race of the year and extend the number of races won by drivers under 30 years of age. Stage 2 winner Martin Truex, Jr. had made his bid to close on young Byron but his tires were giving out, lapped traffic cane into play and he couldn’t get any closer than 2 seconds behind.
Ross Chastain Wins at COTA Out of One Heck of a Finish
Ross Chastain continued an incredible 2022 as the third driver to become a first time winner this season. In a race that saw plenty of drama, Chastain steadily climbed through the field and wound up in an epic battle for the lead between himself and three other drivers during the final laps; Allmendinger, Bowman, and Reddick.
William Byron Wins At New Look Atlanta
Not all drivers were fans of plans to revamp Atlanta Motor Speedway. The old track was wide and fast and worn out. Drivers liked the racing surface. But it didn’t make for much in the way of entertaining racing so AMS tore it up and replaced with a higher banked, narrower track that provided plenty of side by side action and lots of cars wrecking. If that’s your jam, then you loved the race on Sunday.
Chase Briscoe Earns First Cup Series Win at Phoenix
Welcome Chase Briscoe, first time series winner and 200th driver to post a win in the Cup series.
And this wasn’t a fluke win nor did Briscoe “back” into this win. This was a race from the front kind of day where he led 101 of the final laps. (more…)
Surprising Win From Kyle Larson At California
While I don’t think anyone is surprised at Kyle Larson winning in 2022, it is kind of surprising how he won this past weekend at California.
Tyler Reddick looked like he had the car to beat. Until he didn’t.
