Islip 300, Riverhead RacewayJoey Braun of Manorville put a $12,000 bow on his freshman season as a tour type Modified driver Saturday evening by winning the 9th annual Islip 300 at Riverhead Raceway Saturday evening. Braun broke onto the tour type Modified scene on the SMART tour this year, with he and sponsor Rich Gerbe through his HighMark Building Efficiency securing the Hillbilly Racing ride. Gerbe became a car owner over the summer with he and Braun winning their only other Riverhead start on Wednesday August 27th during a 50-lapper.

Four-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore leads NASCAR’s oldest touring series back to White Mountain Motorsports Park this Sunday afternoon. Originally set for Saturday, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour White Mountain 200 will now be run on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., due to Mother Nature.

The Tour only has two prior stops at White Mountain, both during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Bonsignore picked up the win in the inaugural series stop at the track, and followed it up by finishing fifth in the second one.

David Gravel of Watertown, CT and Big Game Motorsports came about as close to perfection as possible this weekend in the “Lone Star State.”
It began with Friday’s victorious night at Cotton Bowl Speedway. The defending World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car champion started the night with Simpson Quick Time and topped the opening Heat Race. Gravel then finished fourth in the Toyota Dash, and it would be the first and only time he wasn’t atop the leaderboard the entire weekend.

Greeting race fans, I am back in the saddle after a much-needed break.

While I was away, Denny Hamlin and William Byron both won twice putting them into the lead as far as wins even though Kyle Larson is leading the points with a win and four top five finishes. While he also had one DNF, he has four stage wins and has led a whopping 454 laps this season. Byron may have three wins, but he has done that leading only 149 laps.
