Irwindale Speedway To Close After 25 Years Of Racing, Demolition Derbies And More

Irwindale Speedway and Dragstrip has hosted NASCAR events, drag races and more for a quarter-center in the San Gabriel Valley.

The checkered flag is in sight for Irwindale Speedway after 25 years of NASCAR races, demolition derbies, drag racing, and other events at the San Gabriel Valley motorsports landmark.

The speedway and dragstrip about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles will close at the end of the 2024 season with a farewell event scheduled for Dec. 21, according to a statement posted Tuesday. (more…)

No. 48 Team ‘Cut It Too Close’ Before Roval Disqualification – Gordon

Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman Jeff Gordon says that the organization didn’t see anything they were comfortable enough to build an appeal around for Alex Bowman and the No. 48 team.

Bowman was disqualified from Sunday’s race at the Charlotte Roval because his Chevrolet was too light in post-race inspection. There have been no details from NASCAR or Hendrick Motorsports regarding how far out of tolerance the car was, or what caused it to be too light. After crossing the finish line 18th, Bowman was moved to last place in the finishing order and credited with one point for the event.

Flying Lizard Prepared to Close out Multi-Series SRO America Season at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., (September 30, 2024) – Two weeks after racing at the Brickyard with their Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America program, Flying Lizard Motorsport is back at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend to close out the year with their multiple SRO America championship efforts. Though not in the championship hunt, the team has four entries competing to finish the season with wins in GT World Challenge America, GT4 America, and GT America.

“2024 has been a great season for many reasons,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “Although we aren’t in a fight for the championship this year, we have had multiple podiums throughout the season in each of the different classes we are entered in and we see so much potential for 2025. The 2024 Riverhead Raceway regular season concludes this weekend when Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz present the traditional Championship Weekend doubleheader. Seven 2024 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series champions will be crowned Saturday evening September 28th, with an additional eight track champions to earn their titles Sunday afternoon September 29th. All that will remain in 2024 after this weekend is in the books will be the 8th annual Islip 300, a $10,000 to win Tour Type Modified event Saturday November 16th.
