(February 4, 2022) – On Thursday, Team Penske and long-time partner Freightliner, part of Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), made history by using the pre-production, fully-electric Freightliner eCascadia semi-truck to pull a full-sized Team Penske racecar hauler to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ahead of this weekend’s Clash event.
New era for NASCAR is upon us in 2022
To jump start the 74th year of the NASCAR Cup Series, the premier division is ushering in a new era for the sport that is shaking up the status quo. A new car debuts on a new track, with the much anticipated Next Gen car seeing its first on-track competition at the purpose-built, quarter-mile, asphalt oval inside the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The purpose-built asphalt track inside Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is unlike any other track NASCAR Cup cars will race on.
A quarter-mile in length and relatively flat, it’s very narrow with an “infield” that’s barely there.

(Jan. 13, 2022) – New tracks are set to debut in the 13th season of the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series with drivers competing on virtual circuits that more closely mirror the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. A new car debuts on a new track, with the NextGen car seeing its first racing action Feb. 5-6 on a purpose-built, quarter-mile, asphalt oval inside the confines of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum kicks off the 2022 season at a track other than Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway for the first time since 1981 when the series opened its schedule on a road course at Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway, approximately 50 miles east of Los Angeles. Riverside is long gone, the site now home to the Moreno Valley Mall, but the L.A. Coliseum was at 311 Figueroa Street 34 years before Riverside opened its doors in 1957 and it’s still there today.
