Three Takeaways: IMSA Michelin GT Challenge at VIR (By David Phillips)

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Each and every season the Michelin GT Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway is the chance for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) and Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) competitors to strut their stuff in the spotlight. They seldom disappoint, and this year was no exception.

Not only were the identities of the victors in both categories in some doubt right up until the checkered flag, so were the identities of the rest of the podium finishers. The top three in GTD PRO were covered by five seconds while the GTD podium was blanketed by 2.7 seconds.

How Did Northeast Drivers Do Down South At Daytona?

Daytona International SpeedwayRyan Blaney won the Cup race at Daytona.  Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT came in 14th.  Not so lucky was Joey Logano of Middletown, CT, who ended his day in 27th place.
Conner Zilisch won the Xfinity race by virtue of Parker Kligerman from Weston CT stepping into the seat after Zilisch’s injury.  Patrick Emerling of LI, NY placed 13th while Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT had a bad day and ended up 37th.
In Indycar, at the Milwaukee Mile, Christian Rassmussen was the winner while Santino Ferrucci of Woodbury, CT ended his day 14th place in the A. J. Foyt entry.

Connor Zilisch to Drive Trackhouse Chevy in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series

Connor Zlisch Trackhouse 2026DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – Connor Zilisch, one of the hottest prospects in NASCAR history, will race a Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet full-time in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series.

The 19-year-old Zilisch and Trackhouse Racing founder and owner Justin Marks announced Saturday at Daytona International Speedway that they’ve reached a multiyear agreement for Zilisch to drive for the three-car team that has already won five Cup Series races this season with drivers Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen.
