NASCAR Cup Series News & Notes – Atlanta Motor Speedway

Originally called Atlanta International Raceway, the track was then a 1.5-mile paved speedway, located in Hampton Georgia. The first NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta was on July 31, 1960 and won by Fireball Roberts from the pole position.

Over the years the track underwent several changes. It was re-measured to 1.522 miles in the spring of 1970. It was renamed Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1990. And then the track layout was reversed, and the track was re-configured to 1.54 miles between the two races in 1997. (more…)

F1 Legend Schumacher, Longtime Indy 500 ‘Voice’ Page Elected to IMS Hall of Fame
INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, March 4, 2021 – Seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher and longtime Indianapolis 500 broadcaster Paul Page comprise the 2021 class of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.
Schumacher and Page were elected to the IMS Hall of Fame by the distinguished voting panel of 150 motorsports journalists, officials and living Hall of Fame members, chosen from a total of 14 nominees representing the Speedway’s diverse history as host to the Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and, from 2000-2007, F1’s United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

JGR Announces Remainder of Ty Gibbs NASCAR Xfinity Series Schedule for 2021

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (February 23, 2021) – Joe Gibbs Racing announces today the remaining NASCAR Xfinity Series races scheduled for driver Ty Gibbs in 2021.

Gibbs, who will be competing for a championship and running the full ARCA Menards Series schedule this season in the No. 18 Toyota Camry, is currently scheduled to run an additional 14 races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series after winning his debut this past weekend behind the wheel of the No. 54 Toyota Supra. Dating back to 1976, Richard Childress Racing has won 11 poles and collected six points-paying victories at the most-storied racetrack on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit. RCR owns three Daytona 500 wins (Dale Earnhardt – 1998, Kevin Harvick – 2007, Austin Dillon – 2018), three Coke Zero 400 trophies (Earnhardt – 1990, 1993 and Harvick – 2010) and 14 qualifying races, including a record 10-consecutive victories with Earnhardt (1990 – 1999). In addition, RCR has earned the Busch Clash victory a total of eight times, with drivers Harvick (2009, 2010, 2013) and Earnhardt (1986, ’88, ’91, ’93, and ’95).
