Barre, VT — Over 90 cars in four separate classes entered the Thunder Road pit area on Sunday to help Preston’s Kia mark the Independence Day holiday. Just four of those drivers left the gates, following yet another fantastic display of fireworks courtesy of East Montpelier’s Northstar, victors among their competitors with all putting on a stellar show for the capacity crowd and those at home watching on FloRacing. A late race caution flag with four laps left shuffled the deck Saturday night at Riverhead Raceway in The Flying Dutchman 90 NASCAR Modified event and when the dust settled John Beatty Jr. of Merrick master the late race restart to capture a milestone 10th career win. A strong field of 27 Tour Type Modifieds turned out for the race celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Fred Harbach’s winning the final race of his career leading to the track championship on September 19th,1992. It was a magical night September 19th, 1992 at Riverhead Raceway with an ending not even the best Hollywood script writer could have ever imagined. Prior to the ’92 NASCAR Modified season at Riverhead Raceway, Harbach, then 55 announced that year would be the last of his storied 40 plus year driving career. In typical “Flying Dutchman” fashion Fred not only went out and won his final race but sewed 1992 NASCAR Modified championship to boot in his final race. (more…)
