Gap, January 22, 2020

A new-look cast of teams and drivers will assemble in Monaco this week for Rallye Monte-Carlo: the traditional curtain-raiser to the World Rally Championship season.

With newly-crowned king of world rallying Ott Tänak now at Hyundai and the six-time champion Sébastien Ogier taking his place at Toyota, both will have to get to grips with their new machinery on a rally where grip can be notoriously tough to find at the best of times.

Can Ogier take his seventh straight Monte win in a fourth different car? Can Tänak make a perfect start for his new employer? Or will Thierry Neuville make the most of stability and beat them both? Get the answers to those questions and more by tuning into Red Bull TV’s ground-breaking coverage live and on demand throughout the weekend, via redbull.tv/wrc or the app.

A classic test that’s different every time
* The WRC drivers start the year with perhaps the most demanding event of the entire season, with Rallye Monte-Carlo known for unpredictable weather conditions.

* The asphalt roads in the French Alps are relatively straightforward in themselves, but they can be dry, wet, icy or covered in snow: sometimes all in a single stage.

* That makes tyre choice particularly tricky, with drivers relying on their ice-note crews to inform them of the latest conditions on the stages.

* Although the rally starts and ends in Monte Carlo, much of it is based out of the French town of Gap, close to the birthplace of Sébastien Ogier. He leads an entirely new line-up at Toyota, where he’s joined by his former M-Sport team-mate Elfyn Evans as well as the new kid on the block: 19-year-old Finnish sensation Kalle Rovanperä.

* After ending Ogier’s run of consecutive titles in 2019, Ott Tänak heads to Hyundai, where he goes head-to-head with rival Thierry Neuville. Sébastien Loeb will again share a third car this year with Dani Sordo and will be out to beat Ogier to a record-breaking eighth Rallye Monte-Carlo win.

* Amidst all the changes, don’t rule out an upset from the M-Sport Ford team, where Teemu Suninen has now been joined by fellow flying Finn Esapekka Lappi. Briton Gus Greensmith steps up from WRC2 in a third car.
