‘I about lost it’: Tony Stewart says his first NHRA win is special for personal, professional reasons

Tony Stewart ticked off another career accomplishment last weekend, winning an NHRA Top Fuel race. But for the winner of so many karting, USAC, World of Outlaws, IROC, NASCAR and IndyCar races through the decades, this win really struck home.

It was the first one attended by his son, 5-month-old Dominic.

“There’s (Stewart’s wife) Leah (Pritchett) coming up the steps with Dominic, and I am not gonna lie, I about lost it. That was the cherry on top. And by the end of the day, it was the two scoops of ice cream,” he said. “That’s a sentimental moment.” (more…)

Well, as professional drivers, we’ve always dealt with this by rolling our eyes and attempting to explain that driving your street car isn’t even using 1% of its capability. LAS VEGAS — When commenting on the NASCAR approval process over the last week, almost every driver added a caveat: It’s not about Katherine Legge.

They said it out of respect for Legge’s lengthy career and racing resume. Those advocating for change after Legge’s two-spin Cup debut at Phoenix a week ago were advocating for it out of respect for their quest to be NASCAR Cup Series champions.
