Rick Martin ‘just kept at it,’ and now he’s entering Year 51 at Seekonk Speedway

Rick Martin never had grand ambitions when it came to racing. After watching his dad compete for 21 years, the sport was just something he wanted to try.

“Me and one of my friends bought a $50 car and went out there,” Martin said. “The other cars went by us so fast, I thought to myself, ‘I ain’t never gonna go that fast, I’m going to just quit now.’

“But I just kept at it, kept at it, and I guess it was the challenge that I enjoyed.”

‘I about lost it’: Tony Stewart says his first NHRA win is special for personal, professional reasons

Tony Stewart ticked off another career accomplishment last weekend, winning an NHRA Top Fuel race. But for the winner of so many karting, USAC, World of Outlaws, IROC, NASCAR and IndyCar races through the decades, this win really struck home.

It was the first one attended by his son, 5-month-old Dominic.

“There’s (Stewart’s wife) Leah (Pritchett) coming up the steps with Dominic, and I am not gonna lie, I about lost it. That was the cherry on top. And by the end of the day, it was the two scoops of ice cream,” he said. “That’s a sentimental moment.” (more…)

This Is It: Bristol Motor Speedway To Set the Xfinity Series Playoff Field

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is gearing up for the final race in the regular season – the Food City 300 – at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET, and for the first time it will be broadcast on The CW alongside PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

There have been 80 NASCAR Xfinity Series races held at Bristol Motor Speedway since the inaugural event in 1982, and this weekend marks the fourth-time (2020-2022, 2024) Bristol has served as the regular season finale since the inception of the Playoffs in the series in 2016.
