A combination of chamber of commerce weather coupled with a School Bus Demolition Derby drew a standing room only crowd to Riverhead Raceway Saturday evening for another exciting race program. Eric Hersey of Commack led the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series winners when he topped the 25-lap Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modified feature. The large turnout was confirmed as the largest since Eddie & Connie Partridge & Tom Gatz began operating the historic venue in 2016 after purchasing it in 2015.
The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame To Induct Barbara & Jim Cromarty
Thursday evening May 30th,2024 will be a very special one in the rich history of stock car racing on Long Island. Yet not an engine will be fired, nor a lap turned. The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame will induct Barbara & Jim Cromarty into the hall recognizing their 39 years in racing as promoters of Islip Speedway and owners/promoters of Riverhead Raceway. The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be hosted at Flowerfields of St. James.

Lime Rock Park – Jim Haynes, 1933-2023
With great sadness but deep appreciation, Lime Rock Park notes the passing of one of the major figures in the track’s history. Jim Haynes, a two-time SCCA National Champion driver, purchased Lime Rock Park in 1964 from its builders and over the next 11 years, first as owner and then as general manager, shepherded the facility’s growth from near bankruptcy to internationally recognized motorsports venue.

Shawn Solomito Takes Modified Win Saturday At Riverhead Raceway
A chance conversation started during the 2020 Islip 300 last November at Riverhead Raceway morphed into Shawn Solomito of Islip teaming up with Jimmy & Angela Rennick as the driver of their NASCAR Modified and in just their second start together Saturday night Shawn put the new combination into the winners circle at the conclusion of the 50-lap Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modified event. (Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway hosted its first scheduled Friday night race of the 2021 season with a Stafford Weekly Series program on Friday, May 7th. Michael Christopher outdueled Keith Rocco to win the SK Modified® feature, while both Michael Bennett and Derek Debbis both made it two-for-two in 2021 by winning the Late Model and SK Light feature events respectively. Rich Hammann scored his first career Stafford feature victory in the Limited Late Model feature, and Travis Hydar won the Street Stock feature. (more…)
