Not only did the race mark the beginning of the 2022 NWMT season, but the race also marked the first ever NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at New Smyrna Speedway.

Cup To Add Bonus Awards For Three-Race New Hampshire Swing For NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour

Northport, NY Feb. 3rd — As the off-season between 2021 & 2022 winds down, Sean Glennon of Northport is counting down the days to opening night at Riverhead Raceway Saturday, May 7th. That evening Glennon, 23 will make his debut with a new race team Benimax Racing of Miller Place owned by Stan Morabito. If the Benimax name sounds familiar it should as the organization won the previous two Crate Modified championships at Riverhead in 2020 and 2021.
The late Mike Stefanik from Exeter, RI will receive the call to the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Friday night, an honor that recognizes his racing accomplishments as a nine-time champion at the regional series level. (more…)
MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby Racing announced today the addition of champion crew chief John McKenna to the team for the 2022 season, while also announcing a seven-race Modified schedule. The team is tentatively set to run four NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events and three Open Modified races – filling out a schedule where the ultimate goal will be to capture the trophy. The team also announced the return of Mayhew Tools as the primary sponsor of the No. 10 Modified.
