Three National Series Move to Simplified Starting Lineup Process; DAYTONA 500 Pre-Qualifying Practice Added to Weekend Schedule
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2024) – NASCAR today announced that its three national series – the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series – will adjust the practice and qualifying (P&Q) procedures for the 2025 season. The updated P&Q schedule will include more practice time, consistency in procedure across all three series and a return to simplified starting lineup rules. With the exception of the superspeedway events, each qualifying session will be one round, with each vehicle’s starting position determined solely by its qualifying results.

But this weekend, the competitors will have to face one of the biggest hurdles in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs – Talladega Superspeedway – and its 2.66-miles of asphalt with 33 degrees of banking in the turns in Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at 2 p.m. ET on NBC, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) – the sixth and final drafting style race of the season.
NASCAR Xfinity Series – Playoff Wildcard Talladega Superspeedway Is On The Horizon
The NASCAR Xfinity Series kicked off the 2024 Playoffs last weekend at Kansas Speedway and is now setting its eyes on Talladega Superspeedway for the United Rentals 250 on Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m. ET on the CW Network, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) – for the second race of the Round of 12.
There have been 36 Xfinity Series races at Talladega, producing 29 different race winners and 23 different pole winners. Only three races have been won from the pole or first starting position – Justin Haley (2020), Tony Stewart (2008) and Joe Nemechek (1998).

Round 3 of 4. Beard Motorsports returns to NASCAR Cup Series competition for the third of four races this season during Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. It will be the family-owned team’s 29th start since its Cup Series debut at the 2017 Daytona 500, and its 13th overall start on the iconic, 2.5-mile Daytona oval. While five different drivers have previously wheeled the No. 62 Beard Chevrolet since its inaugural season, with a particular focus on Daytona and its sister track, Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, the team welcomes its sixth driver in 21-year-old Parker Retzlaff, who will be making his second career Cup Series start and first at Daytona Saturday night.
