As a roadgoing vehicle, the Chevy Camaro is officially dead. The final example of the muscle car rolled off the assembly line at GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan on December 14th, 2023, but there’s still some life left in the nameplate, at least as far as motorsports goes. NASCAR Chevy teams will continue to field “zombie” Camaro race cars, which, as it turns out, might not be called Camaros at all. (more…)
BRASELTON, Georgia – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams and Mercedes-AMG completed a perfect six-for-six IMSA GT Daytona (GTD) class 2024 championship sweep Saturday in the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Winward Racing’s steady run to eighth place as the highest finishing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the three competing in Saturday’s 10-hour race put the final touch on a dominating season for the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Mercedes-AMG that led the team, driver and manufacturer standings all year after a season-long performance that was the best overall in the four-class IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series. INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Winning Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams Winward Racing and Korthoff Preston Motorsports clinched the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar GT Daytona (GTD) Manufacturer Championship right at the start of the Battle on The Bricks and then spent the remainder of the wet and wild six-hour endurance race closing in on more year-end team and driver honors Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). The No. 32 Korthoff Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished third in GTD after co-drivers Mikael Grenier, Mike Skeen and Kenton Koch battled in the lead pack the entire race from the pole starting position. WeatherTech Championship GTD points leaders Winward Racing took the checkered flag just seconds after the No. 32 team for a fifth-place finish with team drivers Russell Ward, Philip Ellis, and Indy Dontje in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 teams Regulator Racing and CRP Racing combined for victories in three of the four Fanatec GT World Challenge America and GT America races contested this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. Jeff Burton and Philip Ellis co-drove the No. 91 Regulator Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 to their second Fanatec GT World Challenge America Pro-Am class race win Sunday to tighten the championship race between the top three contenders heading into next month’s season-ending race weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — After Tyler Reddick battled a stomach virus throughout the Southern 500 to eke out a 1-point win over Kyle Larson for NASCAR’s regular-season championship, he and the 23XI Racing ownership group went to collect the trophy.
Reddick stood next to the trophy, team co-owner Michael Jordan by his side. Co-owners Denny Hamlin and Curtis Polk were on the other side. Nowhere to be found? A NASCAR executive to present the hardware.
“You know, certainly, pretty disappointed to not see anyone from NASCAR present Tyler his trophy,” Hamlin said. (more…)
