If any NASCAR watchers are skeptical about how much crashes can hurt, they should speak with Joey Logano.NASCAR has made numerous safety improvements over the years to prevent tragic deaths or severe injuries. Crashes still happen on a regular basis, and there are some ugly collisions, but it’s been over 20 years since the sport’s last fatality.
Still, let’s let Logano explain the physical and mental toll that crashes can have on drivers.

Michael McDowell was finally rewarded for years of toiling away in underfunded teams by being in the right place at the right time late Sunday night as he went to victory lane in the Daytona 500. McDowell has run well in this race before with his best finish being fourth in 2017, but he hasn’t always been rewarded with his patience at the Great American Race. (more…)

● Kevin Harvick started 17th and was racing against Chase Elliott and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., in the opening laps.
● On just the third lap, Harvick spun at the exit of the Bus Stop (turns 9-10) after running through some dirt that had been kicked onto the racetrack. This dropped him to 21st. (more…)

Denny Hamlin knew he had a fast car and once he figured that out, he went to the rear of the field and let all the wrecks happen in front of him. And they did, beginning on lap 1.
Kevin Harvick battled Kyle Busch through the end of the final stage of racing and came out on top. Again. Harvick winning really put the dagger through the heart of a few teams hoping against hope to advance to the Round of 12. (more…)
