Kyle Larson pulled off a rare sweep of the weekend races at Watkins Glen. In the Xfinity race, he was the beneficiary of contact between the leaders that sent them both spinning and allowing Larson through to hold off AJ Allmendinger. Fast forward to the rain delayed Sunday race and it was Larson once again holding off AJ for the win. But the win wasn’t without some controversy.
What turned out to be a career day for several NASCAR Cup Series drivers turned into a dismal finish for others, like Ross Chastain.
For the second consecutive season, the NASCAR Cup Series will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course for the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard on Sunday, July 31 at 2:30 p.m. ET (NBC, IMS Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) as part of an action-packed tripleheader weekend with the NTT IndyCar Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series (on Saturday, July 30).
The NASCAR Xfinity Series will be taking on their fourth road course of the season this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course for the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard on Saturday, July 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC, IMS Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) as the second event of a tripleheader weekend with the NTT IndyCar Series and the NASCAR Cup Series.
Justin Allgaier’s 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season didn’t start out the way he had hoped. In five races, the driver of the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet had only one top-10 finish. Allgaier had been involved in various on-track incidents and started the season at Daytona International Speedway by starting second and finishing 28th. But he turned that all around at Atlanta Motor Speedway last weekend by winning the race and taking home his first victory of the season all while punching his ticket to the Playoffs.
Though only 22-years old, Santino Ferrucci of Ridgefield, CT already has a long history in motorsports, but none of that experience has come in stock cars. A professional driver since age 14, Ferrucci spent two years as a test driver for the Haas F1 team, before turning to IndyCar full-time in 2019. That same year, he finished seventh in the Indianapolis 500 to earn Rookie of the Year honors.
In 2020, the NASCAR Xfinity Series ran on four road courses. They started the season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and then went to Road America, the Daytona Road Course and closed out at the Charlotte ROVAL. Austin Cindric, last week’s winner, also won this race last season.
Austin Cindric took up where he left off in 2020. Brett Moffit takes the runner-up spot for Cape Cod’s Chris Our and it’s the strongest finish ever for that team!
“I’ve never felt so small in my life,” Austin Cindric said after Thursday night’s opening Daytona 500 qualifier. At 6-foot-4 and one of the tallest drivers to roam the garage, that’s quite the statement.
