MILFORD, Conn. — Even though he has no previous laps at Richmond Raceway, in many ways, Doug Coby is returning to his second home this Friday, September 10. As NASCAR teams and fans celebrate the past this weekend at Darlington Raceway, the Tour-type Modified teams of the Southeast are getting a similar and slightly-impromptu chance to do the same this Saturday at an old hot spot for Modified racing.
With Bowman Gray Stadium’s 2021 Opening Day being pushed to June 5, the SMART Modified Tour has stepped up once again this year, as the tour will head into Virginia for the second time this season, this time to historic Franklin County Speedway. (more…)
RICHMOND, Va. — Justin Bonsignore spent Tuesday morning and early afternoon taking laps around Richmond Raceway in Virginia behind the wheel of his No. 51 Phoenix Communications, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour ride for Kenneth Massa Motorsports. As part of a tire test, Bonsignore took laps in preparation for the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 150, which is set for Friday, September 10. The race will mark the return to the .750-mile oval for the Whelen Modified Tour for the first time since 2002.
Defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville will return to where it all began for him when the tour makes its first of three visits to Riverhead Raceway Saturday May 15th and with him bring a four race WMT win streak into the Miller Lite 200. The third week of May date is the earliest the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has ever visited the eastern Long Island facility since it’s inception in 1985.
