DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For nearly a decade, two IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge races run an additional two hours beyond the standard-length of two hours, but pack a similar punch of parity and picture-perfect finishes. Daytona International Speedway has hosted the most, with its BMW M Endurance Challenge race running to four hours every year since 2017, while Watkins Glen International, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Road America, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course have alternated the second.

“Repeat-Repeat” Race Win for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing Team Winward Racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, California – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing team Winward Racing – the reigning IMSA GT Daytona (GTD) class champions – turned in a “perfect” performance for a “repeat-repeat” GTD class race win Sunday in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (WRLS). The win from fourth on the grid was a GTD class-leading second victory of the season for the Winward No. 57 drivers and second consecutive at WRLS after winning on the 3.238-mile road course for the first time last year. Winward’s first 2025 victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring in March was also a repeat performance after winning the classic endurance at Sebring International Raceway for the second-straight time in March.

  • Lots of Streaks on the Line Ahead of Second Straight WeatherTech Championship California Race

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca serves as the first two-hour, 40-minute standard length sprint race of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

A total of 36 cars are set to compete across Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) and the two GT classes, Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) and Grand Touring Daytona (GTD). The GTP car count stays at 11 for a second straight race, alongside 10 GTD PRO and 15 GTD cars. The race is Round 4 of the year for GTP and GTD, while GTD PRO is back for Round 3 for the first time since the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March.

IMSA Riding New Wave of Emerging GTP Talents

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Every “era” of sports car racing has its iconic performers. In IMSA’s more than 50-year history, that’s broken down by top-class periods of who’s starred in prototypes.

With the reborn Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class now three years into the formula, there’s a pattern of stars starting to emerge. There are long-time prototype drivers who raced in the previous Daytona Prototype international (DPi) and Daytona Prototype and/or Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) iterations before GTP competing alongside those whose main top-class experience is focused on GTP.
