It’s designed to give teams a clean slate with four more tickets to the Championship Feature up for grabs, and Gravel did exactly what he needed to do.

Shane Cockrum Seeks Second Bettenhausen Trophy With Lein Team In Springfield Saturday

August 11, 2025 Springfield, IL-Second generation race driver Shane Cockrum spends his days as a first responder in his Benton, Illinois home but many weekends are spent behind the wheel of a sprint car or a USAC Silver Crown champ car.  The Franklin County Fire Chief has three champ car wins on the Illinois dirt miles, two at Du Quoin and one at Springfield.  This year, Cockrum teams with long time USAC car owner Hans Lein in search of a second Bettenhausen trophy.  Cockrum is part of a stellar field that rolls into the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Saturday for the 62nd Bettenhausen 100.

Springfield, IL August 6, 2025- It’s less than two weeks until the rumble of USAC’s Silver Crown dirt championship will bounce off the massive Illinois State Fair grandstand, as the 62nd Bettenhausen 100 takes center stage Saturday, August 16.  The Bettenhausen continues a tradition of championship dirt car racing on the last Saturday of the fair that goes back to 1934.  A full field of the mighty uprights is expected to enter the grounds on August 16.

Matt O’Brien Scores First Wiscasset Feature Win of 35-Year Racing Career

Wiscasset Speedway returned to action on Saturday night with an action-packed Group 2 program that included the lightning-fast NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites.

The racing action kicked off with the first of two 30-lap features for the Portland Glass Strictly Streets. Brady Romano took off with the early lead, but trouble was on the horizon as Scott Eck and Landon Tapley collided, resulting in a caution. Romano remained strong on the restart but Ben Burgess was on the move, overtaking the lead on lap 10 as Joe Harriman followed in succession. Burgess maintained command following a mid-race restart, picking up his second win of the season in the division. Joe Harriman and Chuck Wagstaff (1st career podium) followed, completing the top 3.

734,000 viewers watched Alex Palou win Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES race from WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway on FOX, up +829% from 79,000 viewers for last year’s Laguna Seca race that was affected by a network scheduling change.

  • Up +36% vs. 538,000 viewers for the 2023 race, which aired as the season finale (9/10/23)
  • Up +17% from last year’s 626,000 viewers for the 2024 non-Indy 500 race average
  • Most-watched Laguna Seca race since 2021 (750,000 on 9/21/21)
  • Race peaked at 884,000 viewers from 5:15-5:30 PM ET
  • Through the first 14 races of the season, INDYCAR on FOX is averaging 1,486,000 viewers, up +31% over last year (1,132,000)

Bubba Wallace won the Cup Series race at the Brickyard. Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT came in 4th.  Joey Logano of Middletown, CT ended up 32nd.

Connor Zillisch won the Xfinity race while Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT came in 23rd.

Across town at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, the Craftsman Truck race was won Layne Riggs with Gio Ruggiero of Seekonk, MA having a tough day and ending up 28th.

Over on the west coast at Monterey, CA it was another Indycar win for Spain’s Alex Palou while Santino Ferrucci of Woodbury, CT had an off day and finished 22nd
