Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing Team Winward Racing Extends IMSA GTD Points Lead at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin – A convincing pole-winning performance by Russell Ward in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 on Saturday was the major factor in the Winward Racing team and drivers building their 2025 IMSA GT Daytona (GTD) championship leads despite a rough and tumble and largely frustrating race at Road America on Sunday. The top qualifying effort, which garnered 35 valuable championship points, was the fourth career and first pole of the season for Ward. The pole-winning effort returned the No. 57 team’s championship leads to more than 100 points with just three races remaining on the 2025 schedule.

“Repeat-Repeat” Race Win for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing Team Winward Racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, California – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing team Winward Racing – the reigning IMSA GT Daytona (GTD) class champions – turned in a “perfect” performance for a “repeat-repeat” GTD class race win Sunday in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (WRLS). The win from fourth on the grid was a GTD class-leading second victory of the season for the Winward No. 57 drivers and second consecutive at WRLS after winning on the 3.238-mile road course for the first time last year. Winward’s first 2025 victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring in March was also a repeat performance after winning the classic endurance at Sebring International Raceway for the second-straight time in March.

Winward Racing Extends IMSA WeatherTech GTD Class Championship Lead with Fourth-Place Finish at the 50th Grand Prix of Long Beach

LONG BEACH, California – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing team Winward Racing extended its points leads in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) driver and team championship standings with a fourth-place finish Saturday in the 100-minute sprint race at the 50th Grand Prix of Long Beach. Starting seventh in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, co-drivers Russell Ward and Philip Ellis improved three positions on the 1.968-mile Long Beach street circuit in a clean and competitive run to the finish.

With longtime Winward team member and AMG Performance Driver Philip Ellis at the wheel of the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, the reigning WeatherTech and IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (IMEC) GTD champions nearly won the class pole position with a last-lap flyer as the checkered flag flew.

DANVILLE, Virginia – Championship-leading Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams and Mercedes-AMG begin the year’s final three-race stretch run of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway with the annual Michelin GT Challenge at VIR, August 23 – 25. Sunday’s two-hour and 40-minute race is the final WeatherTech Championship sprint event of the season and the year’s only race spotlighting the series’ GT Daytona (GTD) and GTD Pro divisions in their own feature race.
