Sunday, April 9, 2017 – On this day in history, Hendrick Motorsports driver Jimmie Johnson posted his 81st NASCAR Cup Series career win at Texas Motor Speedway. Johnson started 24th and worked his way to the front. He wasn’t a factor till late in the race when he took the lead from Joey Logano with 17 to go and won. In total Johnson has 83 career NASCAR Cup Series wins, which is tied with NASCAR Hall of Famer Cale Yarborough for sixth on the all-time wins list.

Sunday, April 9, 1961 – On this day in history, NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen stole the NASCAR Cup Series win at Martinsville Speedway from Rex White, who led the first 118 laps, but Lorenzen took the lead with 31 to go and never relinquished it as weather brought out the caution and ultimately the end of the race on lap 149. It was the NASCAR Hall of Famer Lorenzen’s first win in the NASCAR Cup Series. He would go on to amass 26 total series wins in his career.
