How New Englanders Performed In Racing Over the Weekend

Ernie Francis, Jr. won the SRX event at the Lucas Oil Speedway half-mile venue in Indianapolis on Saturday night with Franklin, MA native Bobby Santos, III coming in fifth at his debut in the series.

The NASCAR Xfinity race on Saturday afternoon held at the Elkhart Lake four-mile road course had Kyle Busch taking another one of those events while Boston’s Kaz Grala placed 18th in that one while Brett Moffitt had bad luck and was a DNF at the wheel of the Chris Our entry.  Cape Cod’s Chris Our is a building contractor from Harwich, MA.
Chase Elliott was the winner of the NASCAR Cup race at Elkhart Lake Raceway in Wisconsin.  Joey Logano of Middletown, CT managed to finish 15th. Corey LaJoie wound up 21st.  Corey’s dad is Randy LaJoie s native of Norwalk, CT.  Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT ended up 37th due to brake failure and getting stuck in a sand trap. Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT had the same bad luck and blew an engine in the early going.
At Mid-Ohio Raceway on Sunday afternoon Josef Newgarden won NTT Indy car race while Santino Ferrucci of Woodbury, CT placed ninth at the checkered flag.  Ferrucci splits his time between the NASCAR Xfinity and the NTT Indy Car Series.

David Gravel of Watertown, CT raced in twin WoO features with 12th and fifth place finishes at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin.
