NCS Race Recap: Shane Van Gisbergen Completes Rare Weekend Sweep In Chicago

CHICAGO—Once again, Shane van Gisbergen asserted his superiority on the streets of Chicago, and in doing so, he matched a major NASCAR milestone.

In winning the Grant Park 165 on the Chicago Street Course, the New Zealander completed a weekend sweep of the NASCAR Xfinity and NASCAR Cup races, both from the pole position.

Trackhouse Racing and Daniel Suárez Agree to Part Ways  at Conclusion of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Season

Concord, North Carolina – Trackhouse Racing and Daniel Suárez, driver of the No.99 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series, have announced their mutual decision to conclude their partnership following the 2025 season. The move allows Suárez to pursue new opportunities in his racing career.

Suárez, 33, who is an Xfinity Series Champion (2016), a two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner and the first Mexican driver to win a Cup Series race, has been with Trackhouse Racing since it began competition in 2021.

The new F1 movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris has been a hit with a stellar opening weekend at the box office. And with its arrival, rumors are flying about another potential racing movie that could be in the works — Days of Thunder 2, a sequel to the 1990 NASCAR film starring Tom Cruise.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the hit Formula 1 film, also produced Days of Thunder, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. The film remains both relevant and beloved by NASCAR fans today, but could a sequel really be in the cards?

How did New England and Northeast Drivers Perform at Atlanta and Lime Rock Park?

Chase Elliott won the Cup race at Atlanta.  Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT came in 15th.  Not so lucky was Joey Logano of Middletown, CT who placed 36th.

The Xfinity race at the same track had Nick Sanchez going to Victory Lane.  Kris Wright ended up 25th.  Wright steers the entry for Cape Cod’s Chris and Mary Our who reside in Chatham, MA.  Anthony Alfredo of Richfield, CT ended his day in 29th place.

Lime Rock Park in Connecticut had the Craftsman Trucks in for the first time.   Corey Heim won the race.  Gio Ruggiero of Seekonk, MA came in third.  Stewart Friesen of NJ placed 23rd.  Dale Quarterly of Westfield, MA ended up 32nd.

Also, at Lime Rock Park was a Menard’s ARCA race won by Tom Annunziata of Colts Neck, NJ.  Dale Quarterly finished seventh.

Lime Rock Park followed up with a story that there was a record crowd in attendance.
