Lou Modestino Track Talk: Here’s How Northeast Drivers Performed At Darlington And Portland

Northeastern senior correspondent Lou Modestino checks in with his latest Track Talk:
Chase Briscoe won the Cup race at Darlington, SC.   Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT finished 16th, and Joey Logano of Middletown, CT ended his day in 20th position.
The Xfinity race in Portland, OR saw Conner Zillich go to Victory Lane.  Thomas Annunziata of NJ finished 28th while Anthony Alfredo of Ridgefield, CT ended his day in 33rd.
The Craftsman Trucks also raced at Darlington, SC.  Correy Heim won that one, with Corey LaJoie placing 20th.  Corey LaJoie is the son of Two -Time Xfinity Champion Randy Lajoie who grew up in Norwalk, CT before he moved to Charlotte, NC to be closer to all of the NASCAR Teams. Gio Ruggiero of Seekonk, MA ended up 22nd.
The Indy Cars were in action at Nashville, TN, and Josef Newgarden won that one.  Santino Ferrucci of Ridgefield, CT came in eighth.

Goodyear Racing Notes – World Wide Technology Raceway

NASCAR Goodyear TiresThe Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup that awaits NASCAR Cup Series teams at World Wide Technology Raceway (WWTR) this weekend is new to the Illinois track but already familiar to teams, having debuted at Iowa Speedway a month ago.

These new left and right side tires were initially developed with Iowa’s fast cornering speeds in mind and are also the product of a June tire test at WWTR, where drivers Erik Jones, Brad Keselowski, and Kyle Larson tested them.

Logan Melcher Wins 2025 Boss Hogg 150 at Wiscasset Speedway

Wiscasset Speedway opened up their gates on Saturday for one of their biggest race events of the year: the doubleheader Boss Hogg 150 weekend.

Saturday’s program began before any cars hit the track as Team Wiscasset hosted their annual “Racin’ Cancer” walk/bike, benefiting the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation. Dozens of people participated, fundraising for the local organization that helps Maine cancer patients in need.

DARLINGTON, S.C. — It was a Southern 500 race that didn’t follow form—not anywhere close.

The presumptive favorites for the NASCAR Cup Series championship didn’t perform like favorites in Sunday night’s Cook Out Southern 500, the opening race in the 2025 Playoffs.

N. Woodstock, NH — The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division at White Mountain kicked off Saturday night’s six division card with Chloe Doyle and Bella Hamel leading the way side-by-side at the front. Several back of the pack cautions slowed the pace early but under green flag conditions Lucas Sidney and Owen Dupuis made their way through the field to pour the pressure on in the closing laps. Under the twin checkered flags Sidney took the win by a hair over Doyle with Makenzi Sicard sliding in for third to round out the opening podium.

PORTLAND, OR – A dramatic overtime pass for the win punctuated a nearly perfect afternoon for JR Motorsports driver Connor Zilisch at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway, where the 19-year old claimed his series-best eighth NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the season – the best series victory total ever for a rookie driver.

Only weeks removed from breaking his collarbone celebrating another win – at the Watkins Glen, N.Y. road course – Zilisch claimed pole position, won both stages, set fastest lap and celebrated it all in Victory Circle of the famed 1.967-mile road course in the scenic Pacific Northwest.

NCTS Race Recap: Corey Heim Opens NASCAR Truck Playoffs With Eighth Win Of Season

DARLINGTON, S.C.—Even though the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series changed the clock from the regular season to the Playoffs, it was still “Corey Heim Time” on Saturday at Darlington Raceway.

Pulling away after a restart on Lap 134 of 147, Heim won the Playoff-opening Sober or Slammer 200 at the challenging 1.366-mile track. The win was Heim’s eighth of the year, one short of Greg Biffle’s record nine-victory season in 1999.
