DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 15, 2021) – The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series schedule was announced today, and like 2021, the DAYTONA 500, NASCAR’s biggest and most prestigious event, will kick off the season while the Coke Zero Sugar 400 will again be final race of the regular season.
The all-new 2022 GR 86 will arrive at Toyota dealerships soon, but race fans don’t need to wait. They can see it in action this weekend as it paces the National Auto Sport Association National Championships Presented by Toyo Tires. The pace car role kicks off this Thursday, September 16, as Toyota’s latest Gazoo Racing sports coupe leads racers at Daytona International Speedway. Winner-take-all championship races take place Sunday, September 19.
Ask racers about their bucket list of tracks, and it’s a safe bet Daytona International Speedway is one of them.
National Auto Sport Association drivers will be able to check The World Center of Racing off their lists when the 2021 NASA Championships Presented by Toyo Tires heads to the iconic venue, Sept. 16-19, 2021. (more…)
Joey Logano led a race-best 37 of the 165 laps Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway, and those laps out front included a Stage 2 victory and the lead with seven laps remaining in regulation. The driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford was feeling good about his chances of capturing his second victory of 2021 and second at the 2.5-mile track in Daytona Beach, Florida.
But then Logano wound up 23rd at the checkered flag in overtime. (more…)
After seeing superspeedway cars get airborne this year, NASCAR changed the race package for Daytona which provided tight pack racing – which fans may like, but drivers not so much. While the cars were a tad slower, the closing rate was the same or more which causes a lot of issues when drivers start blocking.
Kaz Grala tweeted Saturday night that he is on crutches with a temporary cast on his left foot following and accident in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. (more…)
