Kurt Busch Backs WRC Return To USA After First Taste At Rally Finland

As reported by Tom Howard of Motorsport, NASCAR champion and Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch believes the World Rally Championship (WRC) has the potential to crack America after receiving a taste of the series at Rally Finland.

WRCThe 2004 NASCAR Cup champion and 2017 Daytona 500 winner made the trip to Finland to experience the WRC for the first time. The 46-year-old has been a long-time admirer of rallying and in 2014 competed in the Monza Rally Show, driving an M-Sport-built Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—For Kurt Busch, waiting for the announcement of the 2026 NASCAR Hall of Fame Class felt like race day.

That was before his name was called as a member of the class, joining Harry Gant as a Modern Era choice.

Modified superstar Ray Hendrick earned election to the 2026 class on the Pioneer Ballot, and promoter extraordinaire H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler was recognized as the recipient of the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR.

Kurt Busch is hoping that his upcoming participation at the Race of Champions is a springboard to a broader return to racing.

The 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion was forced to call time on his full-time NASCAR career in 2023 due to the effects of a concussion sustained in a c rash during qualifying at Pocono in 2022. He gained medical clearance to get back into the cockpit this week ahead of the Race of Champions in Sydney on March 7-8, and told RACER that he hopes that more driving is on the horizon. (more…)
