LAS VEGAS, Nv. — Based on the box score alone, you might think Kyle Larson dominated Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
You’d be wrong.
Two races into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season and two-time series champion Kyle Busch is back on top of the driver points standings for the first time since joining Richard Childress Racing. Busch holds a scant one point lead over Hendrick Motorsports’ driver William Byron in second and Team Penske’s Austin Cindric after opening the season with 12th-place finish at Daytona and a third-place result last weekend at Atlanta.

WELCOME, N.C. (December 19, 2023) – Lucas Oil Products, a long-time partner of both Richard Childress Racing and ECR Engines, will expand their partnership with Richard Childress Racing and Kyle Busch in 2024, the companies announced today. The Indianapolis, Ind., based company will partner with RCR and Busch for multiple NASCAR Cup Series races and also continue as the official motor oil of ECR Engines.
High Limit Racing, founded and owned by NASCAR champion Kyle Larson and five-time World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet, is expanding in 2024. The formerly named High Limit Sprint Car Series is adding events and increasing driver payouts while broadening its partnership with FloSports. Last week I noted that if you led 100 or more laps at Las Vegas, you had a pretty good shot at winning the race. Well Kyle Larson did just that, and more. He won both stages and led the most laps with 133 and the final 45. But it almost did not come to pass.
