(Stafford Springs, CT)—When it comes to Open Modified competition at Stafford Speedway in 2023, parity is the word of the day. Unlike the 2022 season that saw Woody Pitkat finish second and then win three races in a row, the 2023 season has seen 4 different winners in as many races.
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (June 22, 2023) – Six races into his rookie season on the Big Machine Vodka Spiked Coolers TA2 Series tour, Thad Moffitt scored his first podium finish three weekends ago on the downtown streets of Detroit.
The ASA STARS National Tour roared to life over the weekend with the inaugural race at Five Flags Speedway. The Sunshine State 200 kicked off the first of ten races for the series, which will see ASA STARS take on the most iconic short tracks and the most iconic races.
With that said, let’s take a look back at what was the Sunshine State 200.
Atlanta. 75 years ago, on June 8, 1948, the 356 No. 1 Roadster became the first automobile bearing the name Porsche to receive its general operating permit – the birth of the sports car brand. Porsche is now embarking on its anniversary year with the Porsche Vision 357 and a reference to the Porsche 356 – Ferry Porsche’s dream of a sports car.
Not all drivers were fans of plans to revamp Atlanta Motor Speedway. The old track was wide and fast and worn out. Drivers liked the racing surface. But it didn’t make for much in the way of entertaining racing so AMS tore it up and replaced with a higher banked, narrower track that provided plenty of side by side action and lots of cars wrecking. If that’s your jam, then you loved the race on Sunday.
The 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship season launches off the Sakhir start line at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20 with Scuderia AlphaTauri duo Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda eager to get miles under their belt at Barcelona pre-season testing this week after a successful Misano shakedown of the new AT03. A mix of Stafford regulars and Stafford invaders highlight the early entries including 2021 Spring Sizzler winner Patrick Emerling and 2015 Spring Sizzler winner and hometown hero Woody Pitkat.
