The Sunapee speedster dominated the MDP Motorsports Productions presents 75-lap Modified Racing Series main event to earn the top prize in the Labor Day Weekend classic.
OSWEGO — Mexico’s Michael Barnes captured his second Budweiser International Classic triumph on Sunday at Oswego Speedway.Barre, VT – Perfect weather greeted the race fans and the over 120 teams on hand Sunday afternoon for the 47th EastRise Credit Union Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road. An incredible 37 of those teams were Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour teams, ready to dig deep all day long for a shot at just thirty starting positions.
Thunder Road stars Christopher Pelkey and Jason Corliss, along with current ACT point leader Raphael Lessard and former champion Jimmy Hebert all earned one of four heat race victories to kick off Sunday’s afternoon showcase. Returning for two more qualifying rounds, former winner D.J. Shaw and defending Milk Bowl victor Marcel Gravel split the two consolation events while Stephen Donahue ran away with the B-Feature win.

The fields for each feature were already determined through redraws before inclement weather forced an early conclusion to Friday’s program. Now, fans will enjoy a pair of high-stakes feature events to officially close out Spencer Speedway’s 2025 season.
Coming into the Newsday Salutes First Responders NASCAR Modified feature Saturday at Riverhead Raceway, Owen Grennan of Glen Cove formulated a game plan upon finding out he’d start outside of the front row. Grennan, a schoolteacher by day executed his plan to perfection winning the 50-lap main event, his second of 2025 and third of his career. Prior to racing Connie Partridge & Tom Gatz in conjunction with Newsday presented a moving salute to all 1st responders during opening ceremonies, complete with a flyover by the Suffolk County Police Department.
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Despite now being a part-time competitor on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Ron Silk now has more victories than any other driver on the 2025 season.
The two-time champion earned his third checkered flag of the year at Oswego Speedway on Saturday evening after cycling to the front after a sequence of late pit stops. The triumph was Silk’s third at Oswego and 29th overall with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, moving him into sole possession of eighth on the all-time win list.
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – Following a series of second place finishes and nights when it looked like he might have won, Eddie Strada of Lake Ariel, Pa. stormed to his first career T.P. Trailer NASCAR Modified win, in another thrilling night of racing Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
Joey Vaccaro of Reading, Pa. was able to maintain the lead after a three lap side-by-side duel with Teague MIller of Barto, Pa., and late race pressure from Addison Meitzler of Kempton, Pa. to score his second win of the season in the 25-lap T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman thriller.
Matt Hirschman Wins Maynard Troyer Classic VI, Race of Champions Sportsman Modified and Rocket Performance 602 Sportsman Modified Series Features Rescheduled for Friday, September 5 to Conclude Spencer Speedway Season
Williamson, N.Y. – (August 30, 2025) – For the third time in the six-year history of the Maynard Troyer Classic, Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., drove to victory lane at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y. The win came under unusual circumstances as the 2025 edition of the event became the first rain-shortened race in the history of the Classic, declared official after 43 laps were completed when persistent lake-effect drizzle forced an early conclusion.
Just five races remain in the 2025 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season as the series returns to historic Oswego Speedway in New York for the running of the Toyota Mod Classic 150 this Saturday night (8 p.m. ET on FloRacing).
Saturday’s race marks the Modified Tour’s 18th visit to Oswego, with the first four visits occuring in 1988. Brian Ross captured the first two checkered flags at the track, with Mike McLaughlin and George Kent Jr. capturing the next two at the 0.625-mile oval.
