LOUDON, N.H. – Fans headed to New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) for New England’s only NASCAR Playoffs weekend are in for a wicked good time at “The Magic Mile” as drivers take to the track for three full days of action-packed racing this Friday through Sunday, Sept. 19-21. From one driver’s chance to go back-to-back and be the first to lock in to the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Playoffs Round of 8 to the majority of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) field racing at NHMS for the very first time during a cutoff race, there will be no shortage of thrilling, white-knuckled excitement for fans to enjoy. Here are five must-watch storylines headed into the weekend:
BRISTOL, Tenn. — Layne Riggs recovered from a first-lap spin at Bristol Motor Speedway and rallied to win Thursday night’s UNOH 250 Presented by Ohio Logistics, the second race in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Playoffs.
Grabbing the lead after a restart on Lap 142 of 250, Riggs held off a determined charge by two-time series champion Ben Rhodes to win this third race of the season, second at Bristol and fifth of his career.
It’s not often that a driver leaves a race track proud of an 18th-place finish, but that was clearly the case with Austin Dillon after last Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
In fact, finishing 18th was a triumph for the driver of the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, and it left him within striking distance of the Round of 12 entering Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway (7:30 p.m. ET on USA, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
As Justin Allgaier begins the defense of the long-awaited NASCAR Xfinity Series title he won at Phoenix Raceway last year, the focus, appropriately enough, is on his rookie JR Motorsports teammate, Connor Zilisch.
The 19-year-old driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet has won seven of the last eight races, including the last four straight, tying Sam Ard (1983) and Noah Gragson (2022) for the Xfinity Series record for consecutive victories.
Haas Factory Team driver Sam Mayer may not have turned in the flash and multi-victory pizzazz this year that Zilisch has demonstrated, but the 22-year-old Wisconsin native won at Iowa Speedway in August and his 15 top-10s through the opening 26-races points to the consistent success he’s shown all year.
Championship on the Line for the Sport’s Elite Prospects with a Pair of Races at zMAX Dragway and The Dome at America’s CenterCONCORD, N.C. (September 5, 2025) – The SMX League has announced the field of prospects that will comprise the SMX Next World All-Stars for the 2025 season, where a championship will be on the line for the sport’s most promising young athletes. A pair of World All-Stars races will be contested in the journey to crown the first SMX Next World Champion, with Playoff 1 on September 6 from zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, and the Final on September 13 from The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, both of which will be run as part of the SMX World Championship Playoffs.

DARLINGTON, S.C.—Even though the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series changed the clock from the regular season to the Playoffs, it was still “Corey Heim Time” on Saturday at Darlington Raceway.
Pulling away after a restart on Lap 134 of 147, Heim won the Playoff-opening Sober or Slammer 200 at the challenging 1.366-mile track. The win was Heim’s eighth of the year, one short of Greg Biffle’s record nine-victory season in 1999.
