Thompson, CT — Yet another picture-perfect day greeted the fans at Thompson Speedway to finish off the 52nd Icebreaker with the help of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Single car, time-trial qualifying saw Mike Christopher Jr. leading much of the session before Matt Hirschman and Jon McKennedy both tied with a 19.125-second lap. Hirschman would lead the twenty-nine car field to green for the Icebreaker 150.
On Wednesday, NASCAR announced the following penalties have been issued coming out of the event at North Wilkesboro Speedway:
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Stephen Kopcik has been suspended for one race and fined $1,500. He will be suspended from NASCAR until the fine is paid and is on probation until December 31, 2025.

Stephen Kopcik overcame an early race penalty to work his way back to the front of the field and took control of the race in the second half to score his first career NAPA Spring Sizzler® victory.
Claremont, NH — Stephen Donohue is set to make a full-season run at the Late Model championship at Claremont Motorsports Park in 2025. The Graniteville, Vermont, native will make the hour-and-a-half tow south to compete against some of the best Late Model drivers in the region.
Blue Thunder, the 1980 Ford Mustang of the Sopwith Motorsports racing team, has set the first official Fox body Mustang speed record at the Nelson Ledges Road Course.
It seems that I titled this series prematurely. Blue Thunder – my two-owner 1980 Ford Mustang – was once among the least desireable Mustangs in existence but is now soaring in value. Not only are Fox body Mustangs increasing in price across the board, but it turns out that the coupes (sometimes called “notchbacks”) are among the mostly prized ponies in the corral.

Fox body Mustangs (1979-93) have torque boxes for a reason. Ford’s sloppy Fox platform literally twists under acceleration and with every turn the driver makes. This “chassis flex” (technically the Fox Mustang is a unit body platform but you get the idea) robs the classic Fox Mustang of cornering power and good handling characteristics. (more…)
