Phoenix International Raceway continues to deliver quality racing for sure. And like it or not, the Cup playoffs usually produce a quality winner.
This year, one could argue that NASCAR and its playoff system did Phoenix wrong.
RACE RUNDOWN: Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang team fought through more adversity than any of the other Championship 4 drivers in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway, but sheer perseverance won out as he took the checkered flag to capture his third NCS title.

With Ryan Blaney’s 11th-hour victory last Sunday at Martinsville Speedway, Team Penske has a decided edge among NASCAR Cup Series powerhouses entering Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway (3 p.m. ET on NBC, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
Granite Falls, N.C.: With just two races remaining in the zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car Tour season, Canadian Treyten Lapcevich looks to ride his recent string of momentum to propel his Chad Bryant Racing team back into Victory Lane in Saturday night’s CARS Tour 225 pres. by GeoCut at Tri-County (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
Lapcevich returns to the series after finishing third most recently in the NASCAR Late Model Series’ ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway – and a runner-up finish in CARS Tour competition last month at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.

Justin Bonsignore is heading for the final five NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at the top of the championship standings. The chase for his fourth championship continues this Saturday night, September 14, as the Whelen Modified Tour rolls to Riverhead Raceway for the Ed Partridge 256.
In honor of the late Partridge, who operated the track for many years, the Whelen Modified Tour runs this special event each September, with extra laps, and a special pit road set up in the infield for pit stops. In the two-year history of the race, Bonsignore went to Victory Lane both times. The New York native has 11 career Riverhead Raceway Tour wins, tied with Mike Ewanitsko for the most all-time. Bonsignore leads all active drivers in the category.
The next chapter of the fast-moving Shane van Gisbergen experiment will be a full-time NASCAR Cup Series season in 2025.
The New Zealander will be in a third Trackhouse Racing car as the organization expands its footprint. It was a move that Justin Marks had been eying for some time, but van Gisbergen unexpectedly claimed the seat when he won in his Cup Series debut in Chicago last year. (more…)

Williamson, N.Y. – (August 5, 2024) – It will be “Free Apple Friday” at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., as the third annual “Harvest Fest” will take place. It will also be a unique night of racing as the Race of Champions Sportsman Modified and Race of Champions Super Stock Series will race in double-features and the entire night will be “features only”.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—When the green flag falls on the 2024 SK Light season at Stafford Speedway, third generation driver Austin Goff will kick off his first full year of competition. Goff is the son of Aaron Goff and the grandson of Jay Goff, who have both previously piloted the same green and black #07 A+ Fire Protection car that Austin will be behind the wheel of this season. The entire family is excited for Austin to get his rookie campaign started.
Joey Logano was able to appreciate watching Ryan Blaney celebrate last month at the NASCAR Awards in Nashville, his teammate succeeding him as the Cup Series champion to keep the title in Team Penske’s possession. Barre, VT — Rain once again played its part in a Thursday at Thunder Road after plenty of the wet stuff fell from the sky to delay the start of practice on WDEV/Calkins Portable Toilets night. Officials remained persistent and dried the track on three separate occasions with the sun helping out on the final session.
William Byron took full advantage of a late on-track incident between Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson to triumph in Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway and became the first three-time winner in the NASCAR Cup Series this season. (more…)
