Three National Series Move to Simplified Starting Lineup Process; DAYTONA 500 Pre-Qualifying Practice Added to Weekend Schedule
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2024) – NASCAR today announced that its three national series – the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series – will adjust the practice and qualifying (P&Q) procedures for the 2025 season. The updated P&Q schedule will include more practice time, consistency in procedure across all three series and a return to simplified starting lineup rules. With the exception of the superspeedway events, each qualifying session will be one round, with each vehicle’s starting position determined solely by its qualifying results.
Joseph Srigley of TobyChristie reports that (e)ven though Stewart-Haas Racing shuttered its operations at the end of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series campaign, and paved the way for the formation of Haas Factory Team, there isn’t much change within the organization’s program in 2025.
Aside from the hiring of two completely new full-time Xfinity Series drivers, with Sheldon Creed driving the No. 00 and Sam Mayer piloting the newly-renumbered No. 41 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, a lot of things are staying the same. (more…)

The EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix, the season’s third race set for Sunday, March 2 (2:30 p.m. CT, TV: FOX, Radio: PRN, SiriusXM), will shift from COTA’s 3.41-mile, 20-turn Full Course layout to the facility’s equally challenging 2.3-mile, 20-turn National Course. When the NASCAR season ended, Riley Herbst walked away with a win and said he would go on to win the Baja 1000 with his family. Well, their Trophy Truck Spec team did just that.
Riley Herbst and his family racing team finished first in their class and sixth overall in North America’s most famous offroad race. The Herbst family has a long history in the Baja 1000 and that continues this season. (more…)
