Chandler, Ariz. (May 11, 2023) – Radford Motors’ debut of its one-of-a-kind Pikes Peak Edition Type 62-2, on June 25 at The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb brought to you by Gran Turismo, is the latest ground-breaking result of the company’s two-year collaboration with Radford Racing School, its official testing track. 2021 Pikes Peak Hill Climb division champion Tanner Foust will compete in the Exhibition division driving the Type 62-2. Foust won the Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy by Yokohama division, the only spec division, in 2021.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), also known as The Race to the Clouds, is an invitation-only automobile hill climb to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado. This year’s event will mark the 101st running of the PPIHC, which features a 12.42-mile course with 156 turns and an elevation gain of 4,725 feet, rising to the finish line at 14,115 feet above sea level.
The Type 62-2 was tested at Radford Racing School, where it was put through its paces to prepare for the event. Radford Racing School is prominently featured as part of its iconic John Player Special livery.
“When we announced our partnership, Jenson Button and Ant Anstead had dreams of creating contemporary luxury autos — making classic, timeless designs into modern and relevant interpretations,” said Pat Velasco, Radford Racing School owner. “We’re thrilled to be a part of the next iteration of that dream, the Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition. Our track is a perfect place to bring exciting new vehicles to life.”
Formula One TM World Champion Jenson Button, TV personality and car builder Ant Anstead, and business advisor and lawyer Roger Behle, are founders of Radford Motors. In 2021, Radford Racing School took on the Radford name to reflect the companies’ shared commitment to the continued evolution of high-performance driving and racing.
“Radford Motors cars are extensively developed and tested at Radford Racing School, the ideal environment to optimize their dynamics,” said Button, who was integral to the build and engineering decisions around the drive of this special edition race car.
