Lou Modestino’s “Track Talk” Column For July 18, 2023

Lou Modestino Track Talk

Richard Savary of Canton came of retirement to drive in the Tri-Track Open Modified Series only.  Because he had the opportunity to buy a Tour Type Modified car from the owner in PA minus an engine.  Then he made a deal with well-known Wayne Anderson from Long Island, NY for a power plant and then a trailer also from PA.

In the process of all this his crew returned to the action in this short season.  Former Oxford 250 winner Joey Kourafas of Randolph returns as well as an adviser.  Also, Ray Hornish will be the racecar chief.  New to the #99 crew is Ryan Stone who is the crew chief for Justin Bonsignore who has won three NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races.
Savary’s next race will be at Star Speedway in Epping, NH on Saturday 7/22 .   Stone will be supplying the shocks for the #99 team.  Savary plans to only compete in six races this season.  So far Richard has finished well in previous races.
The recent 50th Anniversary of the Bay State Auto Club’s Classic Car Show held annually at the Endicott Mansion in Dedham on July 9 pulled record entries and a big crowd as the weather cooperated.
On the Cruise Night schedule in the Southeastern MA Corridor and nearby sites goes like this.  At Patriot Place in Foxborough on Thursday nights it’s a go on 7/27, 8/10, 8/17, 9/7, 9/21, 10/5 and 10/19.  Patriot Place has the capability of parking 2,400 vehicles.  That happens when the weather is perfect. The Wheels of Time of Brockton, MA will hold their Cruise on alternating Thursdays right through October at the Brewster Ambulance parking lot on Rt 28 in the Campello section of Brockton.
On Tuesday night’s there’s a Cruise at Cobbs Corner in Canton.  Friday nights are busy at Walmart’s on Rt. 106 in Halifax offering a Cruise organized by the Connecting Rods of Scituate.  The Pietro Family also offer one on the same night at the Episcopal Church on Blue Hill River Road at the base of Big Blue Hill. Time for all of this is at 4 pm.
The Lafayette Club on Bay St. in Taunton goes on Thursday nights with two other Cruises for motorcycles on Thursdays and Sundays at 5 pm.  There’s another Cruise at the South Coast Restaurant in Plymouth on Sundays from 7 am to 10 am organized by the Rods and Rebels of Carver.
Formula 1 Simulators of London, UK let it be known that it’s expanding to Boston sometime in early 2024 and will be located in the Seaport area.  Unfortunately parking there is pretty expensive. We don’t know what the amusement company will be charging race fans and there’s a $25 parking spot in the open and garages.  That will be difficult to fork over on top of admission to the amusement company, especially during this period of heavy inflation following the Pandemic.

Also, the new rent charges at the Seaport’s World Trade Center scared the principals of the well-known World of Wheels Auto Shows when the ownership changed hands.  World of Wheels holds those shows at many of the big cities in Canada and the USA.   That company, Autorama, has the assets to schedule two such events on the same weekend.
