With the choose-cone in play, Jake Johnson nabbed the lead on the ensuing restart underneath Emerling as Ron Silk entered the top three picture. Hard contact between Silk and Emerling in turn four on lap 40 saw both right their open-wheeled machines but it was Silk gaining the on-track advantage to begin knocking down Johnson’s seven-car-length lead.
