SEEKONK, Mass. — With three events in the books for their 2025 season, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is heading for Massachusetts next. NASCAR’s oldest touring series, celebrating the 40th anniversary this season, returns to Seekonk Speedway on Saturday, May 31, for the J&R Precast 150. The fourth race of the season brings the Tour to the Action Track of the East in the midst of Seekonk’s 80th season of short-track racing.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be joined by the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series Late Models, set for 45 laps in the first Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series race of the year. The Helger’s Sportsman and Sport Trucks will also be on track for 25 lap main events. All the action begins with NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour time trials at 5:30 p.m., followed by NASCAR qualifying at 6 p.m., then feature racing, on May 31.
J&R Precast is a family-run precast concrete business that began operations in the late 1950s. Located in Berkley, Massachusetts, they are proud to be a fourth-generation business. Over the years, J&R Precast has grown consistently through a dedication to quality and a relentless commitment to customer service. As a result of this commitment to their customers, they are Southern New England’s premier precast. J&R Precast provides quality precast concrete products including Redi-Rock retaining walls, gravity walls, and reinforced walls. They manufacture commercial and residential precast products for use in drainage, septic, stormwater, transportation, and other precast product applications. They even offer the opportunity to work with you on a custom project, if you give them a call at 508-822-3311.
After three races, Craig Lutz, the most recent series winner at North Wilkesboro Speedway, leads the championship standings by just one point over four-time and defending champion Justin Bonsignore and Austin Beers. Lutz, Ron Silk and Patrick Emerling are the three winners so far during the 2025 season. Also in contention for the title, rising star and part-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Luke Baldwin, son of former Daytona 500 winning crew chief Tommy Baldwin Jr., is fourth in the standings early, with two poles awards.
Emerling, who finished runner-up in the championship in 2024, won New Smyrna and was strong at Thompson Speedway in race two, finishing second. The North Wilkesboro event marked carnage for the Fleetworks No. 1, with an early accident sidelining him early. Lutz and Beers have quietly been consistent, while Bonsignore rebounded from the back of the field at both New Smyrna Speedway and North Wilkesboro in the middle of the race to salvage top-five finishes early in his title defense.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has been to Seekonk Speedway 12 times in their 40-year history of the modern era. In those 12 events, there have been 10 different winners. Repeat winners include six-time champion Doug Coby and Matt Hirschman – who has won the last two races and will look for the three peat. In the last two, Hirschman has led 171 of 300 total laps. Beers also led over half of the race in 2024.
Additional names to watch include Kyle Bonsignore, Trevor and Tommy Catalano and former Seekonk Legends Cars champion Jake Johnson, among others. The full entry list will be posted on nascar.com/whelen-modified-
