NOTEBOOK: At Martinsville, a Justin Bonsignore championship over Ron Silk is ‘anything but a gimme’

Just like last year, a season-long NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points battle between Justin Bonsignore and Ron Silk comes down to the season finale at Martinsville Speedway.

What is different this time around is that Bonsignore holds the advantage going into the final race rather than Silk. A dominant day from Bonsignore at North Wilkesboro Speedway on Sunday allowed him to usurp Silk in the point standings and build a 10-point advantage with one event remaining. Ron Silk Looking to Continue Stafford Success in NAPA Fall Final

(Stafford Springs, CT)—After winning the NAPA Spring Sizzler® in April and the GAF Mod Masters in July at Stafford, Ron Silk and the #16 Blue Mountain Machine / Future Homes team owned by Tyler Haydt and Joe Yannone will head into Saturday, September 28 NAPA Fall Final looking for their third consecutive 2024 victory at the Connecticut half-mile.  Silk has been the hottest Open/Monaco Modified driver at Stafford, not named Woody Pitkat, as he has 4 wins and 6 podium finishes in his last 7 starts at Stafford dating back to the 2022 NAPA Spring Sizzler®.  Despite Silk not being a regular weekly racer at Stafford, he has a high level of confidence each time he comes through the Stafford gates to race and he is eager to continue his winning ways when he takes to the track on Sept. 28.

That is the scenario awaiting Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville and Ron Silk of Norwalk heading to Riverhead Raceway for the Eddie Partridge 256 Saturday September 14th. For the two most recent WMT champions Saturday’s race will be Déjà vu all over again after they waged a titanic battle during last year’s 256 prior to Justin Bonsignore taking the victory.

Williamson, NY – (September 1, 2024) – Ron Silk of Norwalk, CT, drove to his first-ever Race of Champions Modified Series victory this past Friday night at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, NY, and it was in one of the most lucrative victories in the history of the Speedway, with over $54,000 in purse money for the Modified event. Silk took home $11,000 for his efforts in what is considered the best per lap for Modified racing in the region.

Silk started 5th and slipped past Jake Lutz of Hamburg, NY, on a restart when Lutz missed a shift. From that point Lutz pressured Silk all the way to the checkered flag, however, it was to no avail as Silk narrowly earned the victory.

Thompson, CT — A much nicer day awaited fans on day two of the 50th Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway. Six star-studded features took to the 0.625-mile oval on Sunday, as did the peaks of sunshine to greet the fans in the stands. While the Street Stocks were able to start their 2024 track championship season on Saturday, the rest of the track championship line-up got their year started with plenty of action on Sunday along with the roar of the mighty NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour with their return to Icebreaker weekend.
